Just remember... lower those expectations and watch those as detached as you can be with the original film. That way they can just be seen as fun midnite type movies.

Nice movie, one of my fave sci-fi horror films i liked for years.

The movie looks great on BD as it's void of noise and has fine detail even the exploding head looks good on BD.

No, Best Buy is not carrying the title in store. Barnes and Nobles has it for $19.99

Think there will be a chance at buying the poster of the new cover? The criterion site has a lot of previous artwork posters for sale so I'm hoping so, it's an amazing look! Just got mine from B&N.com, great packaging.

What about the tealing? Is it only in that one shot with Lack looking down at the monitor? Wasn't someone supposed to do a comparison?

Default Scanners (1981) The Criterion Collection - July 15, 2014

I have to say ... This transfer IS darker than I remember ... But it looks pretty awesome. Half way through and I don't notice the shift in context. Detail is outstanding.

Ah I was hoping to hear your opinion, after you watched the entire film. Not just randomly grab screens. I'm quite confident you'll just be posting what's aready been posted. Still interested, but I'd also like to hear your thoughts having immersed yourself in the film, as well.

For some reason SSC wouldn't take one of them.

On the special effects extra, they talked about how they had to relocate the shooting of the exploding head to a warehouse location at a later date, so that's probably why it happened.

It's interesting ... Subkultur definitely has blown out highlights. I just finished watching the criterion release and thought it was outstanding in terms of detail .. Though maybe a touch on the dark side. I don't recall the color bothering me at all during the viewing ... I am usually hyper sensitive to color timing changes or problems. Trust me I'm not blind ... I am seeing the same caps you guys are ... But I am telling you it did not bother me during the viewing.

The exploding head scene looked great,

Someone mentioned a second shot in that sequence where the body lurches forward. I remember that from the 80s as well ... Or is that just the power of suggestion ? I swear I remember that though.

Anyone else think Criterion leans a bit too much toward not enough contrast? I like the movies they offer but often think some transfers look a little hazy...maybe its just me though.

Also, whether its the color timing or the screencap itself (or whatever else) there seems to be noticeably less grain in the Criterion vers.

I too noticed very little grain, and I agree that the contrast could be boosted a bit, although it's nowhere near as bad as the screenshots from the review would suggest. I think I'm leaning towards Second Sight for my personal taste, but the Criterion is nowhere near as bad as I was expecting.
