I'm tempted to cancel my Scream order (I was in the first 1,000, but I don't really give a crap about the #) and just order it cheaper when Amazon relists, but what happens if tomorrow, Scream posts again and says that they are now NOT going to do the next 5,000 because so many people canceled and they now have too much unsold inventory again. Then I'd have to scramble to find one again. Once you play fast and furious on how you sell and market your product, it's hard to put much faith in anything they say or do from now on. Will this now be a 10,000 limited edition, or reduced to 5,000 after cancellations? They'll probably continue on with the 10K as they already made the deal with Warner, but who knows anymore. If the 10,000 sell out, will they go back to Warner and up it 5,000 more again in a year? Probably.

People snickered at me earlier in this thread when this first went on sale and I said there would always be a possibility once the LE sells out, that Scream could reissue a "variant" edition without the Blu of the theatrical cut (because then we all BELIEVED there was NO WAY Warner would allow more of that - ha!) and that variant would include the bonus disc, and maybe the booklet, etc. Someone said that would P-O tons of people that forked out for the LE version, and maybe so, but what they did here is just as bad, and I think actually worse. There's nothing wrong with selling an item for $80, but when it's major selling point is the limited edition status and you better get it quick, it was being marketed under false pretenses. Scream needs to stay out of the LE model, because they have fumbled the ball on this one, although they are profiting off it big time just the same.

I actually don't really care about how limited it was --- I just wanted the movie and all the extras --- but I can see how some people see it as a sneaky tactic to get fast sales, and I do think the price should drop, considering it was high to begin with and the limit number is not what was originally advertised.
In all honesty, they don't even have to do a full refund. Just drop the pre-order price on their site to whatever, and give people that already paid 80 bucks a promo code worth the difference to use towards ordering more products from their website.

I don't think there's any chance they drop the number.

No, I didn't mean the price, I meant the number of 10,000 (in reference to schlock's post), but I also do think the price won't drop.

The price likely won't drop because Shout likely had to pay WB just as much money per copy.

If not more... since WB only wanted them to offer 5,000 sets initially as part of the licensing agreement.

Fortunately, I personally don't care much about the limited aspect of this release (which I preordered on day one). But it's certainly not cool to sell a release (especially at such an overprice) based with its limited nature as a selling point and then go ahead and change their minds after everybody's paid. This news is no big loss for me, but it certainly lessens my respect and trust of Scream Factory.

You know, the Occupy Midian petition ended up with 13,905 signatures. Now I know that a good portion of those people will either not buy anything at all or will go with the cheaper version, but still, in the end with all of those guys mixed with others who never even realized the movement existed then maybe they actually will sell all 10,000 before long.

It doesn't change the fact they turned a limited edition into a not so limited release, but still. I can't wait to see how it goes.

I guess it will all depend on how well that second group of 5,000 copies sell... I suspect if they don't sell as well as the first 5,000, they will probably drop the price a bit either on or even after the release date. People cancelling their pre-orders because of the doubling of the limited numbering may also cause them to drop the price.

I just noticed that the Amazon page that is back up has changed their cover image and it now no longer says anything about a DVD being included. I think it's safe to say there is no DVD in the Limited Edition, therefore Blu-ray.com should change their cover image on the Nightbreed LE page to reflect that.

There is no way of knowing until people get the actual physical copy of the movie in their hands. If you ordered directly through Shout & kept you pre-order with them then your chances of getting a lower numbered copy is now greater since so many have been cancelling their orders through the Shout site left & right.

Again, this was a costly acquisition. I very much doubt they can afford to drop the price much if at all. Amazon and the likes will be the best deals, so lock in those prices ASAP.

I just wonder how many copies do regular production runs normally make like 5 or 10 million discs. If so 10,000 still seems it's limited to me in comparison. I am awesomely glad more people will get this release although I can't get it. Also even if I did get it when it was 5,000 I still will be glad for others because everyone should be happy and not just a small select few.

The only time I buy a limited edition is because I don't want to miss out on what I like when it's not available elsewhere or I don't want to wait for the next time. But not because it's collectible.

Why cant a collector just be a collector and not a scalper? I own the Fright Night bluray and would never think to sale it. Even if it gets re released I like owning one of the original numbered lots. I used to collect Sideshow statues that are all numbered and I would also be pissed If I bought a low edition numbered statue and they sell out and are like " Hey....lets go ahead and make another 5,000 of them." Whats the point of collecting if nothing is sought out after or rare?

But this ignores the fact that it was sold to us that way. It was sold to us as being 80.00 because WB would only allow them to do a run limited to 5000. If the core reason for the steep price is removed, shouldn't a better explanation to the ones that have already paid 80 bucks be issued?

You realize WB wasn't like....

"Oh hell, we're such great guys we'll let you produce another 5K copies with no licensing fee."

Right? Shout Factory is still paying a large licensing cost to WB for the Theatrical Cut version.

So their doing it strictly for the fans and not just because they got greedy and would like to sell way more copies at an 80 dollar price point right? Asking for a friend.......

I have a hard time imagining this wasn't a contingency in Shout!'s contract with Warner all along. Some clause reading like "if licensee sells 5,000 copies before release date, licensee may exercise the option of printing 5,000 more." I just can't imagine an additional 5,000 units was negotiated that quickly.
