The PT obviously had a lot of problems but 'we know how all this ends' wasn't really one of them.

And there's really no reason he can't go off on crazy adventures either. There's no compelling story reason to keep him on the ground on Tattoine for the entire thirty or so years between Sith and Star Wars.

Obviously he's not going to defeat Vader or overthrow the Empire but there's all sorts of fun mischief he could get himself up to.

Try to use the training Yoda gives him to attempt to overthrow the Empire anyway against the advice of Yoda? Much like Luke did in ESB.
