Tried a few times to reply to this and it just gets long. What's true is that mainstream game reviews are mostly not helpful and are more marketing tools than thoughtful evaluations. In a well-designed scheme, a 6.5 should be an above average game, yet in the media, a 7 is often considered a near pan, despite that I have fun playing games that get 7s. Bad games get 6's from reviewers. Mediocre games get 8's.

Another problem with reviews is that funness itself pretty much trumps all other "ratable" aspects of a game. And funness is probably the most subjective.

Irrespective, whatever anyone thinks of Destiny, and despite that which infuriates me about it, I find it compelling. It's the first PS4 game that keeps me up too late, makes me late to work and keeps drawing me back.

To me "fun" is worth about 7/10, not 5. The rest is all bonus.

I don't have numbers handy(1) but all the famous web sites all have a median score > 7. Which means that by giving Destiny a 6, they aren't just calling it below average, they are calling it bad. Below 6 is almost exclusively for broken(or super niche) games.

Note: Metacritic scores get downgraded because they treat "*/5" scores by just multiplying the number by 20 and including them, which is nonsense. 3/5 is a better score than 6/10(60/100) because */5 reviewers use a larger % of the scale...2/5 is not at all an uncommon score while 4/10 (or 40/100) is practically unheard of.

Yeah, it keeps you playing for sure. Objectively the story execution was atrocious. I agree regarding review scores. Sometimes they're expected to be high for a game to be 'amazing' and "Must Buy". However I disagree a little like you. Some thing are subjective overall.

After playing a few of the Queen's Wrath missions last night I need to get a better gun. I can make it all the way to the final boss but couldn't kill them, just didn't have enough oomph. If anyone is going to be on tonight and would like to run a few of these missions let me know. My level 24 Hunter really needs some new gear.

Again, that's your evaluation of a 'bad' game if it gets 6.5. I personally find 5/10 is a average that's neither good nor bad. 6.5 though means to me at least something is above average but with issues.

I just got killed by a player with a legendary Auto Rifle from the Vault of Glass. I'm quite gobsmacked by the stats to be honest. It's called 'Atheon's Prologue' if anybody wishes to look it up online.

I did the Mars one and that Epic modifier (shield are super strong) kicked my butt when I had Cabal centurions with sun sheilds and Psions with void shields at the same time. Was very hard to drop shields quick enough to actually kill them.

It seems to be all about the modifiers.
Element burns can work for or against, but the shield buff or "no stagger" can really suck - especially with Cabal. I dread seeing a combo of no stagger and Cabal because I know that means the legionnaires with the shields are going to be a slog - especially solo. Their one weakness is to hit the held out arm to stagger them and then take them down - without that you have to just hit the arm until they drop.

These 4 hour of sleep nights are catching up to me lol

Ok so the most important thing is taking your time. One person always stayed back and I would go in and draw the mobs to us and we would snipe them down until we cleared the room and once we had clear shots at the 3 Servitors would snipe them off as well. I used a solar Ice Breaker (the Auto Regen ammo kick ass) to break the shield up of the mobs but keep a elemental heavy ready just in case a captain gets through.

Just move your way slowly, keeping someone behind when you go into a new room and once you scout it enough and feel safe enough to move on proceed to snipe off the next batch of guys.

Sure you can probably run and gun most of these early mobs but since it was only 2 of us we decided to take it slow.

Once you get to the boss we decided to go with the camping the cliff method. For this method do NOT jump off. There will be a minotaur(purple shield) that spawns behind you every 30 seconds so just kill him fast when he spawns so he wont rocket you. We found it best to split up to different sides as to not get killed together. Once you get a hang of killing this Minotaur just pick off the guys below you and the boss will spawn. After a while you develop a rhythm and pretty much can tell when is about to pop.

Now you just grind out damage with a solar sniper/rocket to the boss and turning around to help with the minotaur when needed. Luckily I didn't need ammo packs since my Sniper regens but might be a good idea to take a few.

We started off as a duo but a third join at the end so we had 2 ppl on the minotaur with the 3rd focusing on the boss and turning around to help with the minotaur when needed.

edit: solar weapons do bonus damage on all mobs.

Boom 9 coins, 400 rep and 10 marks.

Tonight i'll probably take an attempt at the Nightfall using similar tatics.

We were 27, and 26,26 I believe. Should go much better now that I hit 28.

You've got to match damage, all the Queen's Wrath missions that I did last night had an elemental modifier. You have to use void/arc/solar depending on what modifier icon pops up and it makes it a hella lot easier.

Got the Queen's Helmet twice but MaCruz got this cool ass Queen's spaceship.

I figured you'd get mad at me for liking your post. Don't hate the fact that I got that badass Legendary ship I got after our mission. I rather have chest armor though.

Mannnn, I only have about 50 Marks under my belt right now. I need some catching up to do. Playing about 2 hours doesn't cut it for such an addicting game.

I'll be on again tonight, probably around 6:30 pm central until at least 9, unless something happens at work. Rare, that is, but I'm on call. If the wife doesn't feel like watching TV, I will get back on around 10. I will help with Queen's Wrath. I can get another reward from it, still, and I need shards. I also want to work on the two heroic strikes at level 28, if anyone's interested. I'm about level 27.5 myself.

While overall I like the invite system in this game, the one problem with it is you almost have to be in orbit to make a fireteam. I can never join anyone who is already on the ground, because even if their fireteam has a slot, the location is often already full, precluding anyone else from jumping in. Happens often enough. In the same way, I look to see what you guys are doing, and you might be in a mission with a 2/3 fireteam, but the player slots say 3/3, so I can't jump in.

I appreciate all the invites I get in the evening and apologize for those I don't respond to, even if just to acknowledge, but sometimes you just can't, and then you forget. I think it's fair to say that if I'm teamed up with someone I know, I probably won't leave, but on patrol, in crucible or doing a strike with randoms, I'll most likely abandon what I'm doing to party up.

If anyone wants to start working on the raid, I'm up for that, too.

Are you doing the Daily at level 28? You can get 2 shards a day that way. Also can dismantle the Armor from the Queen bounties for Shards. I made a 2nd guy to get 1 extra shard a day but at least now they're coming by a bit faster.

Unconfirmed by me but someone elsewhere said for the Nightfall if you have the Minotaur kill someone outside the cave he will stay there beating them up and wont respawn. So the cheap method just got cheaper

This makes sense. I've died no end of times and had entie mobs still trying to kill me even though I'm dead

Much easier and quicker if it's the case

Ya I noticed that too. He would just continue to beat down on me whenever I died lol
