As one of the naysayers, I definitely agree with the spirit of the article... far enough's been said about how bad the movie will be before it's even come out, along with the fact that we don't actually know a lot about the movie. That said, if this movie sucks, it's only a fraction of the crap that will be said.... I'm hoping for an entertaining movie, but part of me also hopes it tanks so bad that Fox wishes to sell the rights back to Marvel, just so the characters can be used in phase iv, v, or whatever.

Exclusive: Toby Kebbell Reveals Doctor Doom’s Radically New Origin in THE FANTASTIC FOUR Movie

We know next to nothing about Josh Trank‘s The Fantastic Four. We know they’ve casted young, changed a character race (African-American Michael B. Jordan plays Johnny Storm, who is Caucasian in the comics), and strongly hinted at upending what fans expect from an adaptation of the long-running comic series.

Unsurprisingly, those changes will also extend to the film’s antagonist, Doctor Doom, who is being played by Toby Kebbell (Dawn of the Planet of the Apes). We previously knew nothing about how the reboot would handle the Fantastic Four’s archenemy, but Steve sat down with Kebbell for the Blu-ray/DVD release of Dawn of the Planet of the Apes and learned the character’s surprising new back story. People who believe that film adaptations shouldn’t stray too far from the comics: brace yourselves and hit the jump. The Fantastic Four opens August 7, 2015.

Steve asked the innocuous question of what it was like playing Doctor Doom, and Kebbell started off with a simple answer:
TOBY KEBBELL: I’m excited to see it too, and my nerves really…The only thing I can tease you about is what I worked on most was the voice because nobody—even in the cartoons, when I was watching them I was like, “So where’s he from?” There’s a mild change and I’ll tell you because of our history.
And this is where it gets really interesting:

[Show spoiler]
KEBBELL: He’s Victor Domashev, not Victor Von Doom in our story. And I’m sure I’ll be sent to jail for telling you that. The Doom in ours—I’m a programmer. Very anti-social programmer. And on blogging sites I’m “Doom”.

Yep. His name
[Show spoiler]isn’t even Victor Von Doom
, and I’m going to assume he’s also not the ruler of the fictional Eastern European country of Latveria like the character in the comics. However, the computer programmer aspect hints that they’ve kept Doom highly intelligent, and that’s how you represent powerful, scientifically-minded intelligence in the modern age.

Kebbell then gave a sense of how this character fits into the overall tone of the picture:
KEBBELL: Yeah, it was cool man. Josh, the whole deal, the lo-fi way he did it, the ultra-real. It was just nice to do that. It was nice to be feeling like we had to come to terms with what was given by this incident.

They should just call Liefeld and use his FF knock off.

It's like everyone involved with this project is actually working for Disney and they're trying to sabotage it.

So... Is Doom at least
[Show spoiler]an evil blogger? No? Just an anti-social blogger? Oh, a very anti-social blogger?

Cause that's how you represent intelligence in the real world. I'm sure he'll write some really scathing opinions on the F4. Probably reveal all their personal info on the internet.

No, I'm okay with it. It's not like I was going to pay to go see this anyway.

Edit: wth I somehow saw
[Show spoiler]programmer
and read blogger. My bad. My screen is really cracked though and hard to read.

I wish I hadn't misread that. Now I'm going to wish he was an evil blogger, tearing the F4 asunder with his snarky comments.

Thumbs up

Ok, HERE'S the thing. THIS is NOT a Fantastic Four movie anymore. It's going to be the biggest budget knock off OF Fantastic Four there ever was.

No matter which way you slice it, this has gone from being able to remotely tie in with a discernable version of what an FF movie should be, to something not even being linked in any way, shape or form to the source material it's supposed to be based on.

I don't care what way the 'fans' or 'supporters' of this stupidity want to call it, but it's no longer going to rank on any comic fans list of 'Best Superhero Movies' but maybe the 'Worst' list.

The difference between a proper comic book movie and this, is that at least they adapt the spirit and source material as best as possible in an authentic manner for the movie medium. This is neither faithful, nor will it likely hold the same sort of spirit in the dynamic created by those character in the comic.

I'll watch it, and maybe even enjoy it, but this is NOT a Fantastic Four movie to me any longer. It's just got the name.

As I've said many times before... I'm not on board with this film, despite usually taking a "wait and see" approach. But I can say I'm not on board because of what I've heard, seen, and read from the filmmakers themselves.

Everything I have read about this movie has turned me off. Every time someone involved with this movie speaks on it, it further turns me off. This was the last straw.

Can it be a good movie? Sure. It's possible. It just won't be the Fantastic Four. It won't be a good Fantastic Four movie. I don't need to "wait and see," because everything the filmmakers and crew themselves have said tell me that this is not a Fantastic Four movie.

They are taking probably the most iconic Marvel villain, and they're - for some reason - calling him Victor Domashev. He's a programmer. And his username is "Doom."

What a joke.
