I'm just curious (not insulting, so please don't take it that way) but how old are you? I started buying DVDs in 1997, and when some discs were released, the PQ/AQ was so revolutionary..... I was HOOKED....... If you just "missed out" on DVD's emergence into the market, then I understand, but all things considering (at least among this group) I'm a late-bloomer in terms of Blu-Ray.

I agree, your probably very young (15 or younger), due to the fact that DVD had a good 10 years in the market and it would be hard to just "skip" them due to the fact that they were HEAD AND SHOULDERS better then VHS, not as much better then LaserDiscs were but still they stopped those even before. DVDs had better quality then VHS, while not as noticeable of a difference between DVD and BluRay, but the big difference between VHS and DVD (well at least for nonLaserDisc owners) would be that DVDs were widescreen (while full screen was avalible for many DVDs, I think ALL of them had a widescreen version available) and of course SPECIAL FEATURES!!!

I am 38. Had Laserdisc before DVD came out and for me personally, DVD never had the pq or aq to compare to laserdic.

Adding my 2-cents to this duscussion .......... as Iam a firm backer of the Blu-Ray format. I do not chose to buy/re-buy every movie that comes along in the BD format. I have 200+ SD DVD's and will continue to buy them. Although I only buy them when they are of interest to me, (mostly Disney catalog movies for my collection) and are under the $10 cap. If it's something I really want, I'll pay abit more over my cap. But where I decide to buy SD or BD, or even upgrade my SD copy to BD, is based on the BD's spec's. For me to buy a BD, it must be a title of special effects, grand scenery, or off the chart colors. (Pearl Harbor) It must have be of outstanding sound. (Black Hawk Down) Or plainly just be a good action flim that incorporates these features. (Con Air) And just to keep the rest of the fam happy, I occasionally pick-up a BD of their interest so they can also enjoy the Blu-Ray aspect. (Got Gameplan for the kids, Devil Wears Prada for the lil lady, and Ive watched them both more than they have. LOL)
As for pricing? Ive yet to pay over $20 for a BD. Patience does help in this matter, and because of it, I would say I average a purchase price of about $16 a BD. Well thats my insight on this matter, but what matters at the end of the day is, ......... Do YOU feel comfortable/happy with what you spent your money on today??
