Bolded are the ones I own. A few of them I've watched more than once. I'm due to rewatch Topsy-Turvy, but I'm waiting for my copy of The Mikado to show up before I do so. I'm reading and catching up on season 3 of Ripper Street instead.

As others have pointed out, you can watch this in all one go, or split it into two parts like the miniseries. It is slow to start, but it picks up quite a bit. Fassbinder isn't for everyone though, apparently.

I was hoping The Magic Roundabout, I heard it is a really magical story, full of wonder and happiness. The storytelling is superb and I think it is one of those films that have been perfectly cast. The acting throughout is mesmerising and the performances really bring you into that world.

The story is full of mystery and so much depth, it really requires multiple viewings to really understand and get through the complex and brilliant storytelling.

Definitely a film on parr with the likes of Jean Cocteau and Bergman.

I have even heard it brings tears to Lars Von Trier and Michael Haneke.

I'll probably go with the one sitting approach. And I'm definitely a Fassbinder fan, though I've only seen 5 or 6 of his films, and I think most (if not all) of "Berlin Alexanderplatz" (that was a long time ago).

If it is Ride the Pink Horse (which seems very likely), that would be 2 film noirs in a row from the Criterion Newsletter. Last month's being "Odd Man Out". Maybe a noir boxset is coming from them

I always liked Robert Montgomery* and thought a few of his pictures would be good candidates for the Collection:

Night Must Fall
They Were Expendable (a Ford film that Montgomery directed some sequences in)
Here Comes Mr. Jordan

Most of his films were MGM so I don't guess it'll happen but who knows?

*if for no other reason, he gave us Elizabeth.

Well, I went ahead and bought the Criterion 'Children of Paradise' blu-ray. The first thing I did was pop the extras disc in, and watch the little snippet that showed the comparison between the untouched OCN, and the Pathe restoration work. Yes, the OCN is in really bad shape, but from what I could see, the visibility of the grain was reduced a bit on the transfer, but was still visible. When I put the actual movie in and fast-forwarded to the parts of the film that were in the restoration demonstration, the film grain had completely disappeared. I can understand slightly reducing grain visibility if it is a high ISO (fast) film, but not in this case. The grain is visible, but it's not obtrusive, so I don't know what their obsession with removing it was all about. It really does make the faces look waxy.

Criterion has always had a good relationship with MGM and MGM isn't exactly shy about licensing these days.

The fact that this film or that belongs to MGM shouldn't be cause for pessimism(*). At least I don't think it is, anyway.

(*) well, except maybe for the fact that there are so many suitors on the porch these days. that might reasonably give one pause.

It could include Brute Force, since the Arrow release was discribed as a Criterion transfer. I watched it recently and it looks great (movie and transfer).
