DvD Collectors Are Going To Regret Not Adopting Blu-ray

We all know there are a lot of DVD collectors who have amassed huge collections of DVDs. And no matter what they just can't expect Blu-Ray is going replace DVD, and still continue to throw money at DVD mindlessly. Taking up more of the limited space they have for there movie collection.

Of course this does not apply to everyone but you all know the ppl im talking about. So who things these poor ppl are going to regret giving Blu-Ray a cold shoulder.

Give us your thoughts.

I think DVDs are the biggest threat to BD, now and in the future. I don't see the appeal of digital downloads, but maybe that's just me?

I can see why VHS was eventually abandoned (though it lived a long life), but I think people were sold easier on the upgrade from VHS to DVD, whereas they see the step up from DVD to BD as a much smaller one.

As long as people don't believe in BD, there will always be room for DVDs.

You're not alone. Personally, I can see digital downloads being successful with the renters. However, sales is a different story.

I got my first DVD player back in 2000. I never went as nuts for DVD because funny enough Blu-Ray was announced in 2002, and i knew Blu-Ray would be the ultimate format.

Simply because the HD technology would max out home viewing for many years. I never jumped on the band wagon like so many did and bought every movie on DVD, cause sure enough as had happened in 1994 with the announcement of DVD. 4 years later Blu-Ray was launched.

Your not going to hear studios in 2010 talking about a new physical format. There going to focus on download as a way of making up losses form solid purchases.

Blu-Ray will be around till 2025 or even beyond.

Not every one

It might take over the rental market one day but i still think there is enough room for them both to coexist.

There will always be a large amount ppl who want solid and those who want download.

Actually, I'll wait for quality and I avoid On-Demand like the plague. I prefer having a physical product (as do most people as studies have very clearly shown) and if On Demand and downloads actually take off, I think I'll just avoid movies as I can only see more frustration coming from it than anything else.

I still collect DVD's if there movies that were ok and not. I have been collecting Blu Ray's for a while. But I felt the earlier I adopted Blu Rays the less movies I would re-buy.

no, I think alot of DVD collectors will move over to BluRay due to the fact that BluRay players can play DVDs.

when they upgrade to an HDTV and their dvds look like crap, upcoverting still is suckage esp on larger screens, theyll see the light.....

I'll only keep the DVDs of TV shows and old '80s and Euro Horror films. I dont see those coming for about another 10 years.

Not if they have good equipment, i rent my share of blu's from blockbuster, but until they can send a 1080p signal with upcompressed audio, i will not
rent downloads......Except for South Park which isn't in HD

I'm in that boat....... but if I find a $5 b&w classic on DVD that's an obscure title...... I'll pick it up on DVD.......

1,200 DVDs, 55 or so Blu-Rays, 30 of which are owned (at least once) on DVD (I have 6 copies of Reservoir Dogs on DVD) and My next purchase may be a DVD, it may be a Blu..... just depends on what I find.

I like the fact that I don't have to worry about ever needing two players...... The Blu-Ray player will always be able to play the DVDs, although I'd like a new Dedicated DVD player (that DOES NOT upconvert)


I think, the overall adoption to Blu-Ray is hindered by the fact that many movies are obvious "oh I gotta have that on Blu ray" while others are "the DVD is good enough" I personally don't have the rule "I won't buy Comedies on Blu-Ray, only action and horror" I've heard people say that, and it just doesn't make sense to me...... Blazing Saddles and Life of Brian are great examples of how good an old classic comedy can look, and they're worth buying on Blu to me..........

I think once non-visual/audio titles, and black-and-white titles become more popular on blu-ray, and get into the $13-$15 price point, the same titles on DVD will be in the $5 bargain bin, so there will always be that element of putting the consumer in a position of deciding "is it worth it to me"

VHS to DVD was no-more rewinding etc... .so you can't compare the two..... to Joe-Consumer, many Blu-Rays are merely a more-expensive version of the same thing (people here see the added value, but my wife isn't impressed with Blu-Ray, so you have to think about that whole other demographic...... it's all about preceivable value)

My big draw to Blu-Ray is the Audio Quality.... and quite frankly, most home-movie viewers either don't have a Surround Sound System...... or it's a garbage system..... so that hacks off one of the biggest selling points of BLu RAy.

I'm done... I've ranted enough! I wish it wasn't so late.... I'd watch one of my new Blu Rays

I actually never really owned that many DVDs. I started buying in 1999 and the most I owned was about 230. I've sold most of them off. With Blu-ray, I see myself owning many more than 230 some day due to the increased PQ and AQ. I do a lot of renting too. I only buy that which I'll re-watch.

I see what your saying id rather have a blu-ray on my shelve that a file on my pc which has shitty drm. They will also have to increase broadband speeds if they want downloads

yes I agree, my rule of thumb usually is that if it's a new release then I'll buy it on BluRay, if it's a catalog title (unless it's a movie I REALLY like) I'll just get the DVD for cheap at MovieStop, if I can get the DVD for like $5, while the BluRay would cost me like $30, I'll grab the DVD. Also I'm not into rebuying movies. I have yet to ever rebuy any movie other then StarWars (my favorite movie), though there might be a couple VHS that I might want to rebuy on Bluray, but any movie I have on DVD I don't really plan on buying on BluRay, other then StarWars and Indiana Jones.

We as american are material people. We have to have material things, thats why I feel a download wont go far unless we change our ways and I dont see that happening
