Is this going to be like LOTR, where at a later time another boxset is released with extended versions? If so, I'll wait for that.

I am sure they will. But marketing wise, they first wanna let us buy the theatrical version. And move over in the Summer to push Extended Edition, somewhere in November.

The question that needs to be answered first is if they're gonna pull a double-up stunt like last year, when the theatrical edition of DoS also got an exclusive figurine release: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I originally didn't like that stunt, but the Dwarves of Erebor bookends turned out a lot better than the Barrel Riders statue. So I would be in favor of two statue sets for this movie if it increases the chances of finally getting a Smaug statue.

Hmm, I preferred the Barrel Riders one myself, but I do agree with you--anything for a Smaug statue (what an obvious missed opportunity the last go-around).

I was livid when the Barrel Riders statue was unveiled. My rant on that got me suspended for a couple weeks. I initially passed on the Dwarves of Erebor set because I was so sure Smaug was coming. I've had a time tracking it down since.

Was the box-set for the extended blu-ray LOTR trilogy released at the same time as the sets for each individual film? And can we expect to see the extended Hobbit trilogy box-set released at the same time that the extended edition for BOTFA is released? I only ask because the theatrical trilogy is being released at the same time as BOTFA.

I'm very eager to finally own all these films

CeDe.de has listed a Theatrical Steelbook edition of the trilogy (both for 2D and 3D), including Bilbo's Journal. I guess this goodie will be carried over into other regions as well.

yep same here, i did the same with LOTR. i only bought the dvds when they made the extended edition collection. and the same for blu. so i'll wait for those in this case as well.

i'm sure there will also be a 6 movie collection but i already have LOTR on blu so no need to double dip that one.
