Jerry Lawler was before my time. I got used to him on my TV screen in the early 90s when he came to the WWF, but he was borderline retired by that point. It's nice that we'll be able to go back in time and see his contribution to the business for so many years.

So WWE owns the rights to Memphis Wrestling matches...why none on the Macho Man blu-ray?

I wonder if the infamous 1979 match in Memphis for the tag titles (Lawler and Bill Dundee vs Wayne Farris and Larry Latham) will be featured at all. Randomly read about this on a Jim Cornette blog about a month ago.

Who knows, maybe they're saving it for a possible Memphis Wrestling blu-ray.

Jerry Jarrett reused the same tape(s) at times so some footage was copied over. A fair amount of footage from Memphis is also in poor condition and may not be presentable.

Lawler has been trying to get Memphis Wrestling master tapes from people who owned them with the hope of selling the footage to WWE.

But with WMC-TV in Memphis, The Gulas family, Corey Maclin, Randy Hales, Pedro Martinez, The Savoldis and other parties all have claimed/ do claim to own some of the footage, but there doesn't appear to be anyone to have anything to prove they outright own any footage. As you can see, with 21 years of footage out there, its a legal nightmare.

Looks like a good collection. The only things that seem to be missing would be from his Memphis days, the cage match against Randy Savage and a match from his feuds with Austin Idol & Dutch Mantel.

This release has been years in the making. WWE would of done it years ago, but with footage being so spread out, they couldn't do it. Back then, promoters never had the foresight to preserve the footage. Some territories were even recording over the tapes, to save money. Bill Watts had the foresight to preserve the Mid South/UWF footage. It would of been a huge shame if that footage was lost.

From what I've been told, the documentary is disappointing as too many important parts of his career were glossed over, but the Blu-Ray extras make up for it.
