Been a little while since I gave you anything nice to look at.

Belladonna of Sadness isn't your average animated film.

It already looks wonderful and that's before restoration! I can't wait to see the final product!

Just out of curiosity, have you had any communication with Eiichi Yamamoto about the restoration or release?

We are in contact with Eiichi Yamamoto and he’s sitting down for an extensive video interview about his rich career in Japanese animation and the making of BELLADONNA OF SADNESS for us in Japan in a few weeks!

Images from the interviews we did in Tokyo this week with BELLADONNA director Eiichi Yamamoto, lead artist Kuni Fukai and composer Masahiko Satoh.

Have a great weekend everybody!

Smile Belladonna of happiness!

I just came across this thread by complete coincidence. What a treasure!

I had no idea anyone was looking to release anything by Eiichi Yamamoto on Blu-ray. I caught his One Thousand and One Nights (Sen'ya ichiya monogatari) last year and was blown away by the mix of Sixties psychedelia, Arabian Tales and Japanese animation. I'm very interested in Belladonna of Sadness as a result - and these beautiful stills certainly don't lessen my interest.

Are there plans (or hopes or dreams) of releasing the other two movies in Yamamoto's "trilogy" ('Cleopatra' being the third)?

And as someone who has watched his fair share of silent movies (told you, this thread is a treasure!) I am simply astonished at the picture quality gained from the D.W. Griffith short! You can practically lift his fingerprint from that photo! In one fell swoop this renders all DVD releases of Griffith moot. I take it some sort of release of this (and other Griffith shorts) on Blu-ray is in the works?

I can't really decide which of the two is more exciting to me, but I just wanted to share my enthusiasm for these two projects! Thank you!

Fantastic! It's shaping up to be one of the best releases of the year, that's for sure!

In more exciting news, Cinelicious have acquired Agnès Varda's brilliant Kung-Fu Master and Jane B. by Agnès V.

Unfortunately our only involvement in the D.W. Griffith short (Son's Return) was in the restoration work. We're not involved in it's release and don't know what the plans are for it. If I hear anything I'll certainly let you know though!

We’ve considered the possibility of restoring and re-releasing the other two films in the Animerama Trilogy — A THOUSAND & ONE NIGHTS and CLEOPATRA — but it really depends on the response to BELLADONNA OF SADNESS.

I would greatly appreciate that, thank you! I shared the photos of the hand on another forum and the response was uniformly impressed and enthusiastic. The silent cult lives.

That makes perfect sense, I imagine it's a big unknown whether there's a market for this or not. I'll do my bit to drum up interest. The stills you have posted have been magnificent.

Giuseppe Makes a Movie
currently in theatres!
VOD and DVD (no blu-ray) - Spring

Glad you guys changed your mind. Preorder for Giuseppe Makes a Movie blu-ray is up at Diabolik. Really excited for this since I didn't get a chance to see it on the big screen. Giuseppe is a fantastic, insane (in the best possible way) filmmaker and I'm guessing he's a fascinating documentary subject. Can't wait to see the process behind his movies.

You should do spine numbers for your releases like Criterion, Redemption, Masters of Cinema, etc. The collector in all of us would have to have the complete set then and you will make more money lol

Please have simple menus that don't have 2-3 mins of previews and disclaimers and junk. I love that I can pop in a Criterion and the menu loads and I can watch the movie instantly without having to hit the chapter skip button 6-7 times

I just saw a youtube trailer for Belladonna and I found it extremely interesting, and of course gorgeous to look at, even in the worn and soft print used there. Definitely putting this in my wishlist.

Belladonna is one of my most anticipated releases of the year. I never thought it would be released in America, let alone on Blu-ray. I really can't wait to get my hands on this.

Spread the word! The more successful this release is, the better the odds are we'll be able to do more like it!
