this is just another reason why i need a standalone player, as much as i love my ps3 for anything other than gaming it is defiently not ideal. But then again there isnt really a standalone that i would consider buying to replace it. Plus theres no player that you can store music on. I cant wait for sony to release a new es blu ray player, ill jump on that.

It still depends on the on your processor and pre-amp combo unless you are planning on using splitters to pass full range to your sub. It's very ugly and why I'm forced to use a tube pre-amp that does pass through when switching from stereo to surround.

It could be worse and you do multichannel audio and stereo when swtiching from CD and SACD. I can't find a solution that doesn't require me to get off the couch and flip switches.

I did exaggerate a bit. It's not me getting off the couch, rather most people dreading getting that call from that special lady who can't remember what switches to move from the last two dozen times you told her just last night.

I just went to another room. My old gear goes into the old and general purpose viewing room (with that noisy as hell PS3) for others and no one goes into my A/V room w/o me to make the settings.

Damn, while sending just 2-channel like CDs?

Edit: I'm asking because I have a friend with a PS3 and we had a helluvatime with CDs and stereo SACDs outputting anything to the sub. He has an older Pioneer Elite 84xyzpdq-somethingorother.

Are you sure your receiver is not set to direct listening mode that might be the problem.I leave pcm checked in the set up on my ps3 and the sub works fine on music.

im pretty sure my receiver has no such option. It seams the problem has to do with the settings inside the ps3, when i unselect all the multichannel options in audion setup leaving only 2ch the sub works just fine.
