Exclamation Portable TV's and Feb 17, 2009.

As most of us know, TV is going all digital as if 2/17/09. Any analog TV's will now become mere monitors for cable, dish and digital to analog converter boxes.

Problem is, no one seems to be making a converter small enough for portable TV's and I own at least 3. One also plays CD so that is not a total loss. My brother has one that plays cassette, again, useful. I suppose the antenna input could be used to make them "monitors".

I had the ORIGINAL color LCD from Casio, circa 1986. I sold it on ebay for 15 to 20 bucks a couple of years ago. Thought of keeping it as a collectable, but why?

I even have a nice weather proof 4" color LCD. Don't use it much. Only a few times as a monitor for the portable TV Games.

So, who has one and what are your plans for it?

I didn't even think that was going to affect those portable tvs, should be interesting to see how that plays out. I know I sold a ton when I worked at RadioShack a couple years ago.

I worked for them 5 years ago. Can't believe it has been that long already. One day I just casually was checking the price of the portable RCA units for my own edification.

I discovered they had gone disco and dropped WAY in price. I got the 5" b&W with CD player for about 8 bucks after my discount. The similar tape unit for maybe $15 which I gave to my brother. Paid about 20 to 30 for that 4" color one. Had to have it sent from another store. It was the floor model missing the antenna. They took an antenna from stock and sent it to me already attached. Not bad for $300 portable, eh?

I even have one a lady brought in for repair. Told her it would cost at least $50 to repair it. Suggested she buy a new one as it was more economical. She just left it with me and said she no longer wanted it. Well, I sent it out for repair and paid the 50 bucks to find out it had a blown fuse. It actually got one good use duing the east coast blackout of August 2003. Seeing I spent 50 bucks and might not be used a even a monitor, that one bothers me most.

I sucked as a cell phone saleman, but I could sell those 5.8 GHz Uniden phones like crazy. Not cheap either. I think vouching for it as I had one was the big selling point.

I sold my 11" Magnavox a few months ago but it wasn't about the new digital age coming in Feb/09. I only sold it because I was broke and needed money. It played dvds, cds, and a whole bunch of other formats. (Mpeg, dvx, jpeg, svcd, vcd, etc.)
