Office (2015) Blu-ray 3D [Region A Locked]

I'd say the 3D presentation is similar to Dawn of the Planet of the Apes (although the movie is much different and not nearly as entertaining). Maybe Johnnie To can hire Keith Collea or get some advice from Tsui Hark next time he experiments with 3D.

Hugely popular Hong Kong auteur Johnnie To, primarily known for his action movies, surprised and delighted his fans this past year with the remarkable "Office," a stylish, buoyant musical shot in 3D featuring grand, eye-popping set design reminiscent of Jacques Tati’s classic "Playtime." Adapted from her own stage play by Sylvia Chang, who also costars, "Office" takes place in an austere yet exquisitely realized high-rise, where two new assistants attempt to climb the corporate ladder and please the head honcho (played by the imperious Chang).

Cool theater! I love Johnnie To's filmmaking and his references to the French New Wave and other classics. Sparrow was light and fun with plenty of French influence, and Throw Down, his tribute to Kurosawa, is one of my favorite movies in recent memory.

Office is actually the only To movie (out of 11 I've seen) that I did not enjoy, even a little. It busted this illusion for me that he was incapable of making a bad fillm. The set design was certainly remarkable, but unfortunately, that wasn't enough to make it entertaining. There were too many characters for the brisk script to delve into, and the only good music was in the first trailer that I linked. I hope others enjoy it though and that Johnnie To is encouraged to make more movies with (better) 3D.

Oddly enough, his next action crime movie is titled Three, and all of his fans are awaiting Election 3. Those seem like perfect 3D tagline setups to me.

Thanks. If the 3D was strong, that would have made it more watchable in the case of the movie disappointing.

Yeah, i was let down with the 3d in this film, it was nonexistent, i was taking off the 3d glasses and there wasn't any 3d.

I noticed last night that this blu ray 3d edition by Edko Films Ltd. is now out of print.

Dawn of the Apes level 3D, okay thanks. That puts things in perspective as far as the 3D being mild. Hopefully he'll learn more about what makes 3D exciting from the experts in the field or just by watching more strong 3D films.
