I think my desire to see this film just went up a notch! Does it actually have, dare I say, character development and / or atmosphere!!! Apparently, it's not very kid friendly.

I can vouch for that. I saw it at the IMAX Fan screening. First 90 minutes aquite strong. I don't get people complaining about dialogue scenes, I honestly get bored by superhero movies where they're just endless action set pieces.

My issue with the film after giving it more thought is that film feels like it's split in two. After the titular fight, the movie feels more like a standard superhero movie. Still exciting, but I prefer the deep conversations that immersed me into the DC Universe over the epic action.

I'm thinking there's a lot leftover for the Ultimate Cut. It's supposed to be 30 minutes longer, and with movies like this that's usually character development being cut out not expensive CGI action.

unless you're Peter Jackson! He always saves the best stuff for extended cuts.

This seems to fly in the face of many other opinions from the first wave of reviews from the UK press. I'm at a midnight show tomorrow, and have a soft spot for Snyder's work, but the reviews of pals and colleagues ain't exactly filling me with confidence at the moment.

I was at one of the Tuesday screenings so have a few thoughts:

Complexity and character development are not even slightly part of this film. Criminally Batman's big issue with Superman is that destruction of Metropolis from Man Of Steel when this film has the same exact thing with Gotham.

Add to that Jesse Eisenberg thinking this is a Joel Schumacher film, Henry Cavill given little to do but look stoic and Batman throwing the traditional no killing rule right out the window (and not in a thematic way that helps the character - he just blows stuff up) and this is one of the worst ways I can imagine to launch a shared universe. It's almost unrelentingly grim and the way it incorporates...other heroes to set up Justice League? Tacked on, crass and silly.

They urgently need to get someone who isn't Snyder on this DC project. This film will do good numbers for the sheer novelty but 5, 10 films on? I can't see people subjecting themselves to this tone. It's trying so hard to be anti-Marvel it's like they've never read a Superman comic in their lives.

This confirms a lot of my fears with the movie.
