![]() Medium 3D I like. It's mild 3D I'm not a fan of except for distance scenery where it's appropriate. Strong 3D is the best though for the most exciting 3D, promoting 3D and gaining more 3D fans when the stereographers are planning and preparing the film's 3D. No big deal, though comparing 3D and estimating the range is easier if I just remember the strongest 3D films I've seen (Pacific Rim 3D, Turtle's Tale 2, underwater in Creature from the Black Lagoon as a few fast examples) and then compare that visual memory of the 3D with what I'm watching on screen, but also flipping up my glasses to check out the levels of separation of the double image, depending on the layer being affected the most: Pop out, foreground, midground and background. |

Bebop and Rocksteady have plenty of quality screentime but I was most impressed by Krang, who looked excellent in 3D. Megan Fox gets to dress as a schoolgirl so that's a plus, her and Will Arnett also seemed like they had less screen time than in the original, the Turtles were rightly the stars. Shredder was the disappointment this time out, I would have preferred him not to remain unmasked for most of the movie, it made him feel more generic. There's a lot of time spent up high - on top of buildings and in the air - so the 3D has something more to work with. I did feel like the film was treading water a bit in the middle but then the best action scene of the film kicked in and boy did that look good in 3D. The downside to upping the action of course is the overfamiliar overbusyness that you can get with big budget action films, particularly during the finale. But that's a minor complaint, when the end credits kicked in I had a big smile on my face. |

Sounds great 13thman. Thanks.
![]() I did notice in the trailers that Shredder wasn't wearing his helmet mask as he always does in the original cartoon series, though in the first movie, he wore it most of the time aside from his introduction scenes. Good to hear Krang looked believable in 3D, along with the big action scenes. Will definitely check it out next weekend when it arrives here. |

This movie like Transformers will be critic proof. I must admit though I don't understand how some movies are critic proof and some aren't. I would have thought BvS was critic proof but it suffered a hell of a drop off and never reached that magic $1B

As expected, considering the first one got 22% of 100% critics not liking it on Rottentomatoes.com, which reflects the fact that they're more than likely not fans of the Turtles. I enjoyed the first one and hope this offers equal entertainment.

Critics should say at the beginning of their review, if they're a fan or not of the genre of the movie. That would give audiences much better perspective of their reviews. Some do, most don't. Many of them are paid to see movies/genres they're not fans of, then tear it apart. Quote:

But BvS is actually doing significantly worse than even the CinemaScore would suggest; per CS the average domestic cume of a "B" movie is 2.9x its opening weekend, which for BvS would be $481 million (which is clearly not happening with it now out of wide release at just $329 million). It could be because there was a massive level of hype, inflating the initial opening take, or because it's less family-friendly than something like Turtles or even a Marvel flick and thus has a smaller potential audience. Or it could be that people who saw it after opening day just liked it less than most of TMNT's audience liked that. Interestingly the 2.9x multiplier was right on the money for Turtles. Green Lantern (2.2x) and Catwoman (2.4x) also fell short. Even if BvS ends at $340 million it'll actually have had significantly less holding power than both (2.04x). Sorry if I'm rambling, I've got a thing for statistics >.> |

Just saw this. 3D is very similar to the first film's. Fairly deep and some fun popouts. I agree - the whole sequence in Brazil, which begins with the airplane bit from the trailers and ends with the river bit also from the trailers, is the highlight of the 3D and the movie. The tank projectile was the best pop-out of the flick; some other fun ones include Raph's head and stuck-out-tongue and a grenade. Spotted a handful of conversion errors but nothing really too egregious.
The movie itself is, I think, the best in the series since The Secret of the Ooze. Entertaining, light-hearted, action packed, and stupid, but in a fun and silly way. This time around the Turtles are the main characters for sure, with April and Casey being supporting roles and Will Arnett's cameraman having a very small but important role. The Foot clan are actually ninjas instead of generic thugs too, with swords instead of machine guns. Shredder is cool while onscreen but doesn't get much payoff, and Krang's not onscreen much. But Bebop and Rocksteady are fun and get plenty of focus. As to the "soft reboot" thing - it makes reference to the first film but only semi-loosely. As mentioned, the Foot Clan is suddenly very different with no explanation. Shredder and Karai are both played by totally different actors. And no mention is made of Eric Sacks, but it's also never explicitly stated Shredder worked alone, so it's more an omission than a contradiction. If you can accept recasting and the idea that Shredder made the Foot more Japanese without Eric's influence, it works fine as a straight sequel. Also some cute references to the cartoon, Transformers, and even Vanilla Ice. |
