Default Pirates 4 Rumours debunked, "All rubbish" according to writer

Quote:
Hey, screw you, Terry Rossio! How dare you tell us all these Pirates 4 rumors aren’t true! Who are you to break our hearts and shatter our dreams — except you would probably know more than we do. Ahem. Anyways, according to Terry Rossio, who along with partner Ted Elliott, wrote all three Pirates movies, not to mention seemingly every other successful Hollywood movie franchise since the dawn of time as well, all the rumors you’ve been hearing about Pirates 4 are bullshit. Rossio doesn’t go on to say anymore than that, except that Disney is “too protective of their franchises for that sort of thing”, whatever that means.

Rossio posts his comments at his writing site Wordplayer’s message board, which I used to visit pretty regularly when I was in school, and I would recommend for anyone interested in screenwriting. Rossio has a lot of really good stuff there, and all for free, to boot.

"For the record, none of the recent Pirates 4 rumors have any truth, including the so-called record 50 million dollar payday for Depp."

"Some pretty funny stuff, though. Sacha Cohen? Tim Burton? Studios are way too protective of their franchises for that sort of thing. "

So there you go. No, Borat won’t be Captain Jack Sparrow’s long-lost brother. No, Tim Burton won’t be directing the fourth Pirates film. And no, Depp isn’t being paid a gazillion dollars for the fourth Pirates movie.

Maybe.

So there you go rumour mongers! lol

They lost me at "Tim Burton", confirmed suspicions with "Tim & Johnny", and cemented the fakie with "Tim, Johnny and Sascha Cohen, even though Sascha couldn't really act in Sweeney Todd, it still sounded cool".

(In our day, "John Woo" was the flip-switch codeword of a fakie rumor.
And before that, um...."Tim Burton". )

They said the third was going to be the last one....I hated all of the pirates movies. Amazing special effects, but terrible script, and acting.

I want to believe they are going to let the series die, but knowing Disney, they'll sequel a movie to death!

I hope they do a fourth one. If Depp returns then I know it will be a good sequel.

One of my favorite words although not a real word is "prolly". You see it all the time in these forums, another is Medulla Oblongata, it just rolls off the tounge. Back on track I did not see Pirates 2 or 3 in Theaters but bought them and would like to see a 4th.

#4 was made on publicity before #3 had opened (that's how it usually happens), and some synergized justification for that Disneyland piratification of Tom Sawyer's Island they went ahead and built anyway...
After #3 had opened, well--that's pretty much what happened to #4.

(And from what rumors are born is the obvious fact that while studios promote the fact that they're "thinking of" making a movie, they're under no public obligation to tell us at what point they've STOPPED thinking of it.
Which, since no one ever found the body, leaves us to report rumored "sightings" of the project still alive, like Elvis and Amelia Earhardt...)

Didn't Johnny Depp show up in full Sparrow regalia the other day when Disney was hyping up their future film slate?

Yes, yes he did. They confirmed Depp as the Mad Hatter, Tonto, and Jack Sparrow again.
