I honestly don't get Dolby and their not implementing 3D technology into their Dolby Cinema theatrical set ups - I think only two theaters have the Dolby Cinema 3D systems --- anyhow here's a nice video touting the Dolby Cinema release:
on a technical note here's the DCP file encode: 6.0 foot lambert version KuboTwoStrings_FTR-6-3D-60FL_S_EN-XX-CCAP_US-PG_51-VI_2K_FF_20160726_DTB_IOP-3D_OV 2K image, 5.1 surround sound mix. If a UHD edition is to appear when the movie makes it's debut on home video - the image will be uprezzed, and (fingers crossed) Dolby Atmos sound (7.1 core mix). |

I saw the 3D trailer in theaters. It's exactly the same 3D that Laika has shot post-Coraline. Despite ultra-conservative depth, it looks like a great movie anyway.

We saw it in 3D today. We really liked it. It's beautiful to look at--not a lot of pop-outs, but the 3D added something to the back and foregrounds. The film is a little slow, but there was so much to look at, I didn't complain; however, the preview for The Wild Life we saw before Kubo. . . had some of the best pop-outs I have ever seen in an animated film. I had never heard of the film--it's a take on Robinson Crusoe with animals, and the colors, especially a macaw, were stunning.
