I put them in the genre they represent most. Look in my collection and you'll see what I mean.

I wanna do it by genre but I'm really lazy so I do it alphabetically except I put sequels like Next Friday right next to Friday, for example.

I have my Criterion titles separate and sorted by spine#, same for the Fox Studio Classics.

We have our anime in a separate shelf, in more or less alphabetical, and then everything else is in alphabetical.

That's fine for you, but what if family or friends are over, and they're looking at your collection for a film that happens to be cross-genre? It could get confusing for them. They might assume you dont own it when they don't find it, which would suck for you.

Hell, sorting by genre may not even be fine for you! Three years could go by and YOU might forget what category you put (The Hateful Eight) under. ("Was it 'Western', 'Crime', 'Crime Drama', 'Suspense'?").

I know one way you won't forget where The Hateful Eight is located? Under "H" for "Hateful Eight, The".

Well, I am also making labels that I am putting on my shelf. I'll show you in the pictures thread when I am finished.

The Hateful Eight is definitely a western. I'll never forget that.

About a month ago I organized my collection by genre... harder than I thought it would be because of titles that spanned multiple genres. I still like it best by genre... because usually I'm in a mood for a certain genre and then I can easily view what I've got! I think I may revise it over the holidays with different categories, though. Which Genres are you using?

I've changed it up recently. I now separate imports, Criterion, television, Masters of Cinema, and boxed sets/special editions. My steelbooks are all displayed on plate stands as well.

I'm thinking about putting Twilight Times together as well. We'll see.

I organize by Genres, but then I take blank DVD cases and create my own side labels to separate and label the genres. The DVD cases are slightly taller than the bu rays and they make perfect dividers for each genre.

^ I kinda like that. I've only ever organized alphabetically, but this is intriguing. How many Blus do you have? Also, no Mockingjay Part 2?

Edit: I see it's over 600. Didn't think it would be that many since you seem to have less than 20 Blus assigned to each genre.

Movies alphabetically by title with series of films being kept together and organized based on the title of the first film in the series.

Everything else (tv, sports, any docs that didnt have a theatrical release) alphabetically.

This is actually an older picture. I have more blu's now than pictured, including Mockingjay part 2. LOL.

Here's a more recent picture....

I see you have the same CINEMA sign that I have. I found mine at Hobby Lobby for half price as with most of my signs.

I organize based on 3D, 4K, Box Sets, DigiBooks, DigiPacks and also by label (Arrow, Blue Underground, Criterion, etc). Films that don't fall into those categories are just sorted alphabetically.

I will have to post a picture at some point of my apartment which literally has hundreds of DVDs and Blu Rays lining the hallway because I don't have enough shelf space.

That's a neat idea - I like it! I haven't seen anyone else do that. The different "font" on the DVD Case labels is a nice touch, too. Did you print those off your computer or are they labels you bought?
