According to 4kfilme.de in Germany, Samsung will come with 2 new models of 4K Ultra HD blu-ray players this year. UBD-M8500 and UBD-M9500. Release date for Europe is in May. Only the UBD-M9500 will have Bluetooth headphone support, and the UBD-M8500 will also not have the second HDMI out for audio.

I'm tired of Samesong with their curves. Why can they not go with the universal program like anyone else?
And those are Dolby Vision ready right? |

Samsung is not a current Dolby Vision supporter. You'll have to go with the LG or Oppo if the two Sony's are not upgradeable.

Thx, I don't support curves on 4K BR players, and neither on TV designs.
Curves are the domain of nice demoiselles. This is March, we shall know some more this month on Dolby Vision. |

I'm looking forward to the M9500. I have been for awhile, with over 30 4K titles now.
I have no idea how curves would affect the functionality or features -- I assume it wouldn't in the least bit. It doesn't with my Samsung BD player. I totally applaud their decision to put in auto HDR sensing / adjustments. Chris |

How is the M8500 different form the current K8500?
Mine has been solid but lack of DV support and no info screen has me wanting the Oppo when I buy a new display later this year. Also not a fan of the curved shape but that's just cosmetic so whatever |

At the very least, it's second generation, so problems with the first gen are likely to be fixed. No guarantees of course, but I've had better luck in the past not being an early adaptor.
I already have a few 4K titles that were reported to not play well on the M8500, which is why I decided to wait for the next gen. It's nice that all/most 4K disc releases come with a Blu-ray copy as well so I can enjoy the film until I get a 4K player. No need to rush. Chris |

Also, this article claims that there is now a display on the M8500:

Seems like the article you linked to was automatically (and not so well) translated from Italian. Correct translation should be "UBD-M8500 is aesthetically more similar to K8500. Infact, the front USB reappears and there is no display." On the M9500 the USB is on the side. Another difference between the K8500 and the M8500 is that the second HDMI output is gone. Seems to me that the new M8500 is a even more stripped down budget UHD player than the K8500. M9500 again is a small step forward K8500 with its display but not enough to warrant a update of Samsung UHD player.

Yep, $400 price point is not a good spot with LG and Sony at $299.

So here it's 11 days into April and I can't even find a preorder. Has anyone seen any hints of this thing being in the market?
[FilmFreakosaurus: yes, I did mean the K8500 above -- thanks for the correction.] |

Video
@2:16 You can select 4:4:4 and 4:2:2 - on the K8500 you can only select 4:4:4. @2:26 Three options for HDR to SDR conversion. K8500: No options. @4:37 Infobar shows the same info as the K8500 plus the colorspace. No bitrates. @6:05 Not a real display? |
