At the moment I can't see Universal releasing it here unless they finally start to dig into their library with a lot of...enthusiasm. Although noir is currently so trendy, you never know. Criterion could pick it up, but we're still waiting for another Universal held title THE BIG CLOCK from them, something they more or less hinted at quite awhile ago. I guess for $16 I should just go for it. I love the movie.
Can confirm Criss Cross plays on Region "A" & "B" players. No subtitles though.

Did a very quick check and I believe PQ is pretty good, I would give it a 7 out of 10.

Aus $12-78 + Shipping until Sunday.

Just watched Kiss of Death (1947) for the first time and I thought it was excellent. The blu ray transfer is outstanding. It looks just as great as a 4K restoration of a Criterion blu ray.

I just ordered Criss Cross from JB Hi Fi after reading the above Region A confirmation.

I currently own this movie on DVD, and it's one of my favorite films noir. This is a truly dark movie that meets even the strictest definition of "film noir", and it should belong in the collection of everyone who reads this thread.

It's a happy day for me as long as this plays well on my Region A player.

I'm not exaggerating when I say that, for someone who collects film noir on Blu-ray, Criss Cross is one of the biggest elephants in the forest right now, and it's good to have it in my sights.

Great news about Criss Cross being region A friendly

Here's the JB HiFi link: https://www.jbhifi.com.au/movies-tv-...-cross/333115/

It comes to about $16.06 USD shipped currently, which is a very good deal. It's also part of a B2G1 free offer that stacks with the 20% it seems. Three copies are $28.38 USD shipped. Might be something to consider if anyone wanted to do a groupbuy or something.

The site shows the Australian currency charge ($21.27), but I checked my bank after the transaction and saw that $16.35 was the pending charge.

It really is a great deal.

Are there any other great Aussie only releases that might be worth adding for the extra 2 titles?

The Day of the Jackal came out the same time as Criss Cross from the same label. I'd assume it's also region A friendly, but I don't know for sure.

edit: Cevolution literally confirmed it's region free the same time I made this post

Suddenly, Last Summer and Hour of the Gun are two options I suppose.

EDIT: Looks like they don't have Hour of the Gun.

Add me to the list of those who ordered that AU release of Criss Cross.

As Owl said, it really is an essential film noir.

Hello all, my name is MalteseCrow and I have a problem: I'm addicted to film noir. Seriously. It's consuming me.

I fell into it after obsessively reading the entire works of Hammett and Chandler (and gritting my teeth through some Spillane) and now here I am, looking for your help to pick my next flick.

My available options are currently limited to the following list. If you had to pick ONE of these to watch first, which would it be?
-In A Lonely Place
-Gilda
-Murder My Sweet
-The Big Heat
-Scarlet Street
-Mildred Pierce
-Sweet Smell of Success

I realize that's a loaded question that immediately deserves a follow-up question: "Well, what do you LIKE?" So, for the record, my favorite noir films (so far) are:
-Out of the Past
-Double Indemnity
-The Killers (1946)
-Killer's Kiss (call me crazy, but I prefer it over The Killing)
-Sunset Boulevard
-Vertigo
-Kiss Me Deadly
-The Asphalt Jungle
-Cape Fear (1962)

I love films that push boundaries, that are cinematically daring and visually experimental. Although I ADORE Chandler and Hammett, I'm actually less interested in an exposition laden story that could be told just as effectively as a stage play (crucify me if you must, but that's my problem with Maltese Falcon as a film, and to a lesser extent The Big Sleep).

I need less Drawing Room Mystery and more Psychological Thriller. A novel is the place I go for language and dialogue; in a film, I want mood, attitude, shock and "chutzpah." That said, these things don't have to be mutually exclusive. If there's a total package on this list, by all means, I'm game. (And honestly, I'm going to end up watching all these films anyway... it's just about where do I start?)

If I haven't already made enemies of this entire board, I'll humbly and patiently await any insight or advice you could provide. Cheers!

In a Lonely Place. Absolutely brilliant film noir that I would probably say is equal to Casablanca (even though Casablanca isn't a film noir per say).

If you haven't seen any in that group, I'd start with SCARLET STREET and MURDER MY SWEET (probably in that order), then GILDA, before moving on to THE BIG HEAT and IN A LONELY PLACE. MILDRED PIERCE looks fantastic but is more of a romantic melodrama than a typical noir, and I've always felt that SWEET SMELL OF SUCCESS is more of a straight character drama with some noirish elements than a true noir.

I know it might take some time, but you should read back through the thread. Variations on your question have been asked and answered multiple times, so you'll find a lot of relevant suggestions in the previous pages.

Another great Film Noir I can criss cross off my most wanted list

Enjoy!

I was considering purchasing Criss Cross from JB-Hifi. Adding a couple of other titles for the B2G1 free sale and I've noticed my cart triples in shipping costs. $8.49 shipping x 3...

Are them the breaks?

Yeah they charge $8.49 ($6.45 U.S.) per item.

I was considering adding The Day of the Jackal and Fletch Lives to take advantage of the B2G1 deal but the shipping brought the total to around $40 U.S. so I decided to just get Criss Cross.
