We've know that it was coming for a while now, and it was suppose to be out a month or two ago, but the date slipped. This is the first firm release date we've had in a while. Sadly, it's not the lost extended version, which is still MIA.

The print, that was labeled "screening print", was shown at the Silent Movie Theater, and later at the Alamo Drafthouse, that's when it was found out it was the extended print. Someone at the Alamo contacted MGM about this, so MGM would know that this was something to keep tabs on. There was only one copy of the preview print in existence. Somehow, someone at MGM didn't get the memo and accidentally rented out the preview print some time later. It was at that time that the renter, or someone associated with the theater that rented out the preview print, found out how super-duper-ultra rare the preview print was and absconded with the print after the showing. MGM had no idea that they had rented out the preview print to that theater, and still believed they had the preview print in their possession. That was the reason that the earlier planned Blu-ray release featuring the preview print was delayed and ultimately cancelled.

No news has emerged whether the thieve(s) were ever found and prosecuted.
