But again, contradicting reports. Every person has 1080p version but the OP who has a 1080i version. Why do they have 1080i and we have 1080p?
To the OP, if you have a button on your remote for your TV saying info or something similar, press it and see what resolution is being output to your TV. The packaging of PE might just be wrong. Of course, if your TV is not able to do 1080p, then its not going to say 1080p . I thought Galapagos was much better than PE for PQ, that was 1080i. I have the UK version and it says 1080i on the back.
There are parts of Planet earth however, which are blatantly not shot in HD. Those particular parts look as if they have been upscaled. Those that were (close ups in particular) look incredible though. |

It could very well be that the US version of the BBC Planet Earth release was always packaged and labeled as 1080i but the video is actually 1080p. I dont know how this works but I know my PS3 upconverts my 480i DVDs to 1080p/60 when I display them on my HDTV... could be that the video is really 1080i as the packaging indicates and that folks just assumed it was 1080p cause the UK version was and the video is upconverted from 1080i to 1080p? Is that possible? |

If it was packaged as 1080p why was it changed to 1080i... someone from Warner had to approve of this change, printers dont change things on their own. Was the video encode changed? I dont want to open my copy to find out. Has anyone else ordered this during the DeepDiscount sale and gotten theirs? I may just change a copy from a B&M if I see a 1080p version package. |

Im gonna say that its 1080p. My PS3/Pioneer KURO setup would have certain options grayed out on the TV menus if I was NOT receiving a true 1080p signal. At least I think???
Either way, 90% of this release looks fantastic so no complaints here even if it is 1080i. Those having issues need to get a TV that properly deinterlaces 1080i. Like a Kuro. hehehehee ![]() |

There was a section on the shelf at BB today, which had the 2-series set (Planet Earth, and Earth <something>) . There were 2 identical packages there, one for 99 and the other for 114. Grabbed the one for 99 after comparing the packaging and confirming they were the same...in line I'm reading the back and notice 1080i. Go back to the others for 114, they're in 1080p.
Bottom line is, they're both out there (at least in Canada). |
