I LOVE the VHS style packaging, it fits SO WELL with the whole 'Love Letter to the 80's' theme. I admire the clever little yellow dot sticker with the hand-written code number on it, just like local video stores would put on all their tapes. I hope there's a 'BE KIND, REWIND' sticker on this package somewhere.

The ONLY thing that I HATED about most VHS packaging was the open bottom sleeve. I mean, every time you pick that thing up off a shelf, the tape would slide right out and crash to the floor. Who the heck DESIGNED an OPEN-BOTTOM sleeve? The open should have been on the side at most, but the BOTTOM?

LOL, oh well, thank God we moved past THAT mistake.

Check out the case once removed from the sleeve. There's your sticker. PLEASE BE KIND, REWIND. :-P

And don't feel bad. You're not alone. I've handled a few VHS tapes back in the day and fallen victim to the "open bottom" sleeve concept as well. Somewhere between grabbing the tape off the shelf and making it to the VHS machine the tape drops right out the bottom. I'm left holding only the sleeve.

Now to be fair. I understand why the sleeves generally didn't fit more snugly. That would have made it too difficult to get the tape out, even with the small cutouts at the bottom on the sides in some cases. Amazing how far technology has come. Now we have sleeves (or should I say slips) that are open at the top and bottom. Amazing concept. More importantly, the slips are made to fit very snugly preventing the case from slipping out on its own while at the same time allowing for the case to easily be removed from the slip by pushing the case through the slip from one side and out the other. Ingenious.

Whoever coded Target's website is a genius. If you type in "Stranger Things" there, these products show up in the results.

You know.... If we're gonna talk about that, then I might as well point out that almost every DVD and blu-ray slipcover is also open-bottom. And top. So it can slide out and crash to the floor, urm, upside-down.

Default Strange Things can happen in Photoshop.

I've been playing around this afternoon with the Stranger Things cover art I worked up and posted about a few pages back. Below is the original back portion of the cover art.

While I like the plain look of it (which is to my advantage as I'm not a graphic artist and have very limited skills when it comes to Photoshop) I thought I'd try my hand at adding a backdrop to make it look more interesting. Hit up Google and found a photo of a star field that contained some of the same hues as the front portion. Dropped it in and added a filter or two in an attempt to make it better complement the front portion also ensuring the other elements of the back portion still stood out. End result shown below.

Curious to hear what people think. Should the backdrop stay or should it go? :-P Does it complement the front portion well enough or look out of place? The stars that are twinkling on the back portion sort of clash to me with the rounded look of the stars on the front portion. Then again, it's sort of growing on me.

(For those interested I'll be posting a download link next Tuesday to the full size cover art that's suitable for printing.)

Is this your site Amish? http://www.lowpro.net/phpdvdprofiler...60&action=show

I came across your artwork there earlier. I saw that it mentioned several extras like commentaries, and blooper reels, so I was wondering where that came from, or if it's just placeholder info. Covers look nice btw

Guilty as charged. :-P Yeah, that's my site. To view the "Stranger Things" profile within the actual structure of the website hit up the link below in my forum signature. The profile can be found by selecting the "Pre-orders" category or searching for the title.

And yes, I did go a little crazy when cataloging the title. It's just a placeholder basically and since no details have been forthcoming I went ahead and added my wishlist of special features when cataloging it, i.e. Featurettes, Commentary, Interviews, Outtakes/Bloopers and a Collectible Poster. Well, I got the Collectible Poster part right anyway. :-)

My goodness.

If this was in 4K HDR like the show itself is on Netflix I'd be all over it.
It's not HDR on Netflix, just 4K

I kind of want to get this, but I’d be worried about Netflix dropping BD releases for the show after the first season.

I'm getting this. But am worried that the vhs tape looks like a cardboard envelope that will hold the discs overlapped like in the picture.

I have to imagine it's cardboard. I'm hoping it opens up to become a more standard digipak layout with plastic disc hubs.

Sort of like this, but just with two sides

That is how its likely going to be done. Double disc trays on cardboard.

Lol! Sorry. I was just thinking (worrying) the packaging could be another sh1t show like the Omen. I'm still shocked they never updated the horrible packaging on that set.
