I just ordered an 80GB Metal Gear Solid 4 Pack from Amazon! New @ $499!

There was only 2 left when I ordered, so there's probably only one left now!

It had a copy of Metal Gear Solid 4 included, plus backwards compatibility, a Dualshock 3, and now I won't need to get a Nyko adapter, unless I wanted it to have 6 USBs and two SD card and Memory Stick readers.

The value of the PS3 is worth it. But paying $650 from an Amazon merchant is asinine. Technically I had a small credit of $6 some odd dollars, so it was deducted from my final price. No tax, no shipping costs, and everything else makes it all worthwhile.

Thank you, but I do not have a high definition TV yet. This will be my only major purchase for a long time. For now, it's back to strict savings.

Also, another reason for the 80GB MGS4 model in particular is because of the 65nm Cell and the lower heat output. I want to take good care of it, so it will last a LONG time. I have never owned a game console ever, and I remember playing many other kinds when I was growing up, including the NES, which was a long time ago.

If you're really interested in prolonging the lifespan of your PS3, get yourself an uninterruptible power supply (UPS) for it (also applies to other complex electronics like computers, incidentally).

A decent UPS unit will run you somewhere in the vicinity of $100 delivered, but they're worth their weight in gold. Aside from the safety of knowing your gear is protected from poor power quality (which is a concern almost everywhere), it also saves you frustration - no spontaneously losing game progress during a brownout or power spike, no damage to your saved games if something weird comes down the power lines during a save operation.

My launch 60GB PS3 is still working as perfectly today as it was when I bought it.

Im sorry but those are worthless. Any power strip will do. I have over 30k in equipment and none of those power hoax equipment. Go on avs forum and watch people tear these apart

Maybe for you, but not for others. I got my PS3 at launch (UK launch) £425 and worth every penny.

Congrats! I guess Amazon releases this bundle from time to time. I didn't hesitate to buy it when a forum member created a thread about the deal. The next day it was sold out. I'm a very happy man since I got the one I wanted.

No, it's not. It's a good console, with several good franchises that take advantage of the consoles hardware capabilities, and does so rather well.

However, when it comes to a high-end, long term choice, I chose the PS3. The Blu-ray playback is one of the best features, and it's not limited to movies.
