Still seems silly to not even include the series' name on the spine. Glad I got the individual releases with slipcovers (for much cheaper too).

Why? Why risk it all for the inevitable shame of an underperforming sequel?

The third one made over a billion dollars on an $80M budget. A fourth isn’t much of a risk.

Any sequel after the third is usually risky.

Harry Potter, they already had an established series that people knew had an ending so they were still successful.

Fast and Furious is the only example I can think of where they’ve made more sequels after their third and are still, somehow, big hits.

Despicable Me, there’s not much they can do at this point and the audience probably knows that. By the time a 4th one comes out, maybe 5-6 years later and after Minions 2, people will already be worn out by them. Even Dreamworks knew how Shrek was dwindling after the 3rd one and made their next film the definitive last one (I still don’t believe a 5th one is happening, despite the recent news).

Not when it's ridiculously popular. Toy Story 4 will be a massive box office hit even though it's really unnecessary and the trilogy itself is perfectly fine the way it is. Though you say there isn't much that they can do at this point with the 4th Despicable Me film, these studios will find a way. And since these movies are geared heavily towards young children, parents will still take their kids to go watch it. For adults, perhaps 4th may seem too much, but for kids, they won't care and will still enjoy it. In the end, studios make more money and that's good enough for them lol

As for Fast and Furious, the 4th film essentially started a new trilogy of its own, and the success of Fast Five definitely was a game changer for the franchise.

I was holding off on buying them individually until more pics of the set were made available. After seeing this earlier today, I went to Best Buy and picked up the individual 4K releases of 1 and 2 as well as Minions with slipcovers.

Seeing that the spines of the movies in the set don't even really match up with each other, I just opted to get the individual releases with slips. I realize they will still have pretty much the same issue, but I think it still looks at least somewhat better.

While I missed the deal on the first movie being $10 during black Friday, Amazon currently has the first two movies and Minions all for $12.96 each. So I got that price matched at Best Buy (though one of them ended up being $12.75 at Best Buy when they rang it up, so price matching wasn't necessary).

I know it's silly and all, but I just went with what looks better to me IMO. Cost wise once I get the 3rd movie, the difference will be relatively negligible (not counting Minions since that would be separate no matter what). It does look like this set dropped by $10 on Best Buy. It was $60, but is now down to $50.

Thanks for the early pics! I was hoping for something more sleek, so I'll pass on the box. I'll probably just pick up the 3rd in 4K.

So this is only available in Best Buy in the US eh? No sign of it for sale in Canada or even Amazon.com? Weird! Must be a BB USA exclusive then even though it's not mentioned.

It doesn't say anywhere on the box or the website but it's definitely listed as an exclusive in Best Buys internal product description.

Ah well, guess it's all good then. I have the first two in 3D, and just picked up the standalone 4K of the 3rd yesterday so no need for the 4K boxset then. I don't have a DV player, so won't be able to see that anyway.
