Default Suggestions regarding audio?

So I just moved into a new apartment a few months ago, and after getting all my furniture set up and buying a brand new 4K TV, it's time to look into audio.

Anyone have any suggestions/tips for a decent "mid-range" surround sound set-up? I can't fully enjoy my Blu-rays without a proper set up.

I don't want something cheap that I'm not going to enjoy. I'm willing to pay more for something that is going to give me solid results. I just can't go all out and throw down a ton of money for top shelf products.

I know virtually nothing about audio systems (not familiar with what equipment is needed), so any help would be appreciated. As for my living situation - my living room has very high ceilings which does produce a bit of an echo, if that helps at all.

You are willing to pay more? How much more?

I suggest you indicate a price range on what you are willing to spend. 1000?, $5000?, $10000, there is plenty more...

How many speakers do you want to have? Any particular surround type or will an old style 5-5.1 suffice (5-6 speakers)? That can be plenty when you have the right set up and in an apartment you wouldn't need much more unless you own it and want to go overboard.

Make Google your best friend. Do some research. There's tons of it out there. Read lots and go from there. Decide what is most important to you based on what you like and what you'll be using it for. Look at lots of reviews and take note of the stuff that is consistently reviewed well. It will take some time but it's worth it once it's all hooked up and sounding amazing.

AVSforum has some great forums with suggestions, though you should read the stickies first.

Whats your budget? Accessories4less.com has some bargains if you don’t mind some refurbs. You can get adequate speakers from Monoprice to start. Without knowing much about your room size or budget, it’s hard to give accurate suggestions.

I’d stay away from Onkyo. QC issues, rampant warranty problems, unhappy customers.
