u want surround sound, you need an HDMI receiver.
OR oyu can go striaght into your TV with an HDMI or component cables, then use an optical to go into your surround setup.

1080p > 720p > 1080i

interlaced scan shuold be obsolete by now.

when you get your home theater just run the hdmi/dvi cord from the ps3 to the tv then run the component or optical to the receiver. In the ps3 sound setting you can set it to component or optical and still have hdmi for the picture.

It shouldn't happen though, its ridiculous. Isn't that what this website/forum is for, for people that have questions. People come here for answers, not to get insulted.

yeah i agree, we have a really big problem with smug little jackasses postin' around here runnin' off at the mouth and just want to insult people because they cant afford a big ass HD-TV or asking questions how to set-up their hardwere, people like that need five across the eyes.

i wasn't trying to offend you, but why would u buy a ferrari when you can't drive past 40MPH?

in any case, TVs will see a drastic drop in price march or april, keep a look out for sales as the older models will be on sale to bring in the '09 models soon after february.

For that question, I pose a correction. Why buy a ferrari when the speed limit is 80?

80 MPH would be like having a 30something inch Vizio.

this guy has a 20something inch samsung w/ no HDMI inputs... u won't see any difference from a blu-ray to a DVD with proper upscaling.

Arbitrary distinction. And a wrong one at that.

It has a DVI input, which means if the set itself support 1080p [it's a CRT, so no, it doesn't] it could play it [it can still do 1080i however]. DVI and HDMI are fairly interoperable at the basic level, long as you have a cable with the appropiate connections, or an adapter, which surprise, the OP had.

It also has component connections, which can also carry 1080p video, although again in this instance constrained down to 1080i.

Now, since his television doesn't have an hdmi port, yes, he can't have his television recieve more than 2 channel PCM audio or the advanced loss-less codecs. However, that's really going to be his reciever's job anyway, not the television [with it's awe inspiring 2 speakers plus a subwoofer out cable].

tl;dr : You're wrong.

what are u telling me that i don't know? ... that is besides the fact that u disagree w/ my "distinction".

his TV still doesn't have an HDMI in, and it still can't handle 1080p.
not that i matters because it's so small anyway and he won't tell the difference in watchign movies.

thus, a 32 inch LCD Vizio is still better than his TV.

Yeah he is really getting a warm reception into bluray.com with those comments. Was that first comment really necessary?
