Default Crazy For Those Criterion

Joining TSOTL which arrives today from Amazon, I pre-ordered The Age of Innocence and The Passion of Joan of Arc, the first and the latter unexpected pre-order scores at $18+ and $19+, respectively.

From Criterion, three masterworks from My Wish List, long-time personal favorites which I'm more than ready to rewatch in their newly restored glory:

Paris, Texas
The Night Of The Hunter
Tokyo Story

My Dad dragged me see Tokyo Story playing at an arthouse in Manhattan back in the early 70s, the same year his mother passed, and while I don't remember much of the film, I'll never forget him needing a few minutes to compose himself after it was finished. We'll watch the Ozu together once again, close to 50 years gone.

I do notice that it's sold by Amazon now too, so not an exclusive to Criterion anymore, but I doubt it'll get as cheap anywhere else.

Oh, huh! Amazon's MSRP is also $20 higher than Criterion's MSRP, and their "discounted" price is nearly $36 more than Criterion.com's regular discounted price! Almost seems like it's a third-party reseller, but it says "Ships from and sold by Amazon.com."

sounds like you've got a great Dad. my Dad is great guy, to be sure, but I've overheard him say to my mother... "how can they (my wife and I) watch that s**t?" speaking of subtitled or foreign films, in general. my wife was, perhaps, not so ironically, born in another country, btw...

Very kind of you to say so. Both of my parents grew up in Manhattan (Yorkville and Little Italy) and were big fans of the art and foreign film houses back in the 50s, 60s and 70s. Hard to remember, but there were a handful of theaters which only played films in German or Italian.

I picked up

The Shooting/Ride in the Whirlwind
Young Mr. Lincoln
I, Daniel Blake
The Silence of the Lambs

Applying a $50 gift certificate brought the price down to $30, can't go wrong at that price.

Snagged a copy of Silence Of The Lambs. I thought it would have been one of the first titles to temporarily go out of stock. Anyway, I am

Alright, along with my second order of Criterion from the UK, and my first Zoom sale, I'm ordering some US Criterion titles for the first time too I really like this type of sale, and I'm super glad I decided to start a Criterion collection !!

+ I ordered some from Amazon a few days ago (before I heard about that sale) that my friend will send me with these ones.

Apart from To Be Or Not To Be, which is a movie I love but haven't seen in a ten years I think, these are all movies I have never watched ! So I'm gonna have one hell of a week or two watching everything Can't wait !!

Thanks for the heads up, I did the same. Also, for any other posters from the Detroit area that didn't see this: https://www.dia.org/events/voices-light

The Passion of Joan of Arc will be screened March 24/25 at the Detroit Film Theatre, accompanied by Detroit's oldest community choir in a live performance of the Voices of Light score. Couldn't pass it up.

K-Stew double feature for my inbox.

Certain Women and Personal Shopper, have seen neither.

Also, with that order, I received a $50 gift card. Do I turn around and use it right away for some more movies at half off now?!

Decided to go all in. Picked up a second round of movies to get the certificate and then ordered a few more. Tried to get some more contemporary stuff that I can also watch with my wife since she typically does not enjoy older movies (
[Show spoiler]and yes that's also just an excuse to order more movies
). Second round of movies included:

Blood Simple
In Cold Blood
The Thin Red Line
Dazed and Confused
Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas
Ghost World
Election
Punch-Drunk Love
Being John Malkovich
Good Morning
Eraserhead
Cul-de-sac
Time Bandits
Silence of the Lambs

I did some spending this morning. I preordered The Passion of Joan of Arc on Amazon. From the flash sale, I picked up:

The Silence of the Lambs
Elevator to the Gallows
Diabolique (I remember reading somewhere that this may be going OOP soon)
La promesse
Rosetta
Moonrise Kingdom
The Darjeeling Limited
The Life Aquatic
Bottle Rocket

I earned a $50 gift certificate, so I used it right away and purchased:

Sweetie
The Lovers (DVD)
The Fire Within (DVD)

Seeing other people's grabs, I may go back in for a few more that I completely spaced. Here's to hoping that I can control my urges and hold out until July.

Frickin' Amazon! They packaged both of these in a flimsy manila envelope.

It's a miracle they arrived intact. I'm sure I can be anal and look for "creases" but I'm not going to play that game and drive myself crazy.

I'm just glad they're here, and at such good prices.
