I'll buy it no matter how many editions they release. ESPECIALLY on blu ray.

Yeah I don't get it either. The Aviator, Speed Racer and the Potter series looked phenomenal as well...

I think it has/had more to do with some releases not having lossless audio, and the picture having an excessive amount of DNR. The Assassination Of Jesse James and Twister come to mind when talking about excessive DNR. Even though the Lord Of The Rings Trilogy will be the theatrical cuts, I will still rent these, if for nothing than to hear those epic battles with a (hopefully) lossless soundtrack.

My only real issue with WB is the collector's covers that they issue. I understand some people love them and want more of them but I am not and am hoping that there will be both a collector's collection and a standard version as well.

Actually, this isn't so much an issue anymore either with all of the custom cover artwork being generated on the 'net these days.

As big a fan as I am of the books, I still to this day do not think we need ol' Bombadil in the movies.

Yep. The whole group of 3 chapters, The Old Forest, In the House of Tom Bombadil, and Fog on the Barrow-Downs, would never work on the big screen, or at least not in the way we got them.

^ I agree completely. PJ's always said that the whole thing with Bombadil had about as much to do with the One Ring as the Scouring of the Shire, which is to say, nothing at all. He wanted his movies to revolve completely around the Ring. Even Aragorn and Arwen's romance has something to do with it.
