Default THE WASP WOMAN (Roger Corman, 1959) -- Scream Factory, October 10th 2018

Roger Corman's THE WASP WOMAN (1959) hits Blu this October from Scream Factory!

Quote:
**NEW TITLE ANNOUNCEMENT**

Prepared to be stung this Fall when the 50's sci-fi thriller THE WASP WOMAN comes buzzing coming to Blu-ray for the first time!

Roger Corman, king of the cult classics produced and directed this cult classic, and even makes an uncredited appearance as a doctor in the film. Susan Cabot (Sorority Girl) plays Janice Starlin, whose cosmetic company has started to lose sales because its marketing relies on her own once-impressive but now aging beauty. The eccentric Dr. Eric Zinthrop (Michael Mark) develops an enzyme extract from royal wasp jelly, which rejuvenates Janice, with one tiny little side effect: It turns her into a monster! Written by frequent Corman collaborator Leo Gordon (The Terror, Tower of London), this chiller co-stars Anthony Eisley (The Naked Kiss) and Barboura Morris (A Bucket Of Blood).

National street date is October 30th but if you pre-order directly from us we'll ship it out two weeks early! https://www.shoutfactory.com/product...roduct_id=6859

Film had new scenes shot for the TV version, using original cast to get the film to an acceptable run time for broadcast slots.
Definitely would be cool to have the TV version on there as an extra.

Or maybe branch the scenes in?
Get them in there one way or anther

Nice to get good quality releases of titles that have been relegated to budget sets of PD films for years.

I just hope it's priced accordingly. Could become a viable new line for SF, who have previously included some old PD films in sets, like the Vincent Price collections.

Saw this on TV in the late 80s as a kid and really liked it for being a Fly rip-off.

My recollection is that most of the added, shot-for-TV footage is a lengthy intro segment with a beekeeper and perhaps one original cast member.

BEAST FROM HAUNTED CAVE did reassemble a few cast members for added TV footage.

There is an opening segment with the keeper ( he is in the film proper as well ),
an added chase sequence,
( I forget, this chase may be the one that actually repeats footage from the film itself to pad it out more )
and approx 1 min of dialog.

Run time is 73 and change for the TV version,
61 or so for theatrical.

Isn't this already on DVD from Retromedia? Outside if new footage and a better encode (maybe) what is the benefit of the Scream Factory release?

Scream Factory may have access to the OCN or an IP via their purchase of Corman's film library. I think Retromedia's master was sourced from a theatrical print.

The scene with the beekeeper is much longer in the TV version, like being in a really boring science class.

I'm told that the only other extra footage is two guys (not original cast members) in a car driving around looking for somebody (probably the beekeeper). Reportedly, the music in this scene is lifted from Corman's THE LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS.

The first thing I've heard about the Scream BD is that it will be the shorter theatrical version. I don't know if a lesser-definition version of the TV edit will be included, and I don't know if the extra TV footage might be included as a supplement, or not.

I'd really like to have this one, but it's probably too much to hope for that it will be region-free. I just love 50's sci-fi/horror films.

I don't get it, are you annoyed at having more special features to choose from?
