If I'm honest, I would have liked Croatia to win the Cup out of the two teams. But fair play to France - they were excellent throughout the whole tournament.

Well done to France it has been a good World Cup plenty of goals and drama and the best game for me was Portugal v Spain.
The VAR has been a success and i think we will see it more often but like i said it was a good World Cup.

To be fair, he get through a huge workload for the team. Takes the brunt if you like?

If I had to pick one game out of the whole World Cup which I enjoyed the most, I would pick the Portugal vs Spain game. Plenty of goals and a thoroughly entertaining game.

He’s not a terrible player by any means, just not a brilliant one either.
He puts a shift in for sure but that’s what I expect from all my players,if you’re not prepared to work then you won’t be in the team.

I like him. Not the finest like you say but more than capable.

Bloody hell, that was almost civil and right at the end of the World Cup.

I still think you are a **** though!

Atlanta v Seattle now Batman in the MLS.

I like Seattle and Atlanta have the biggest attendance in The States.

Is there an MLS thread here?

^ link to Russian activist rock band that claimed responsibility for the on-field protesters. Probably good for another decade in prison.

I don't think I can post the name of the band without being instabanned.

Fifa could have at least spent twenty quid on a gazebo to present the trophy under.

Yeah, Croatia would've been great if only to lend credence to the people sniping at England that they let a golden chance slip, they won't get a better opportunity etc etc etc. While that may well prove to be true, the point is that Croatia or England weren't going to overcome France, before those semis were even played I called it that the winner of France vs Belgium wins the tournament, and so it proved. The semi was England's game too far, the final was Croatia's, and both teams will return home as heroes having given their countrymen one hell of a journey at this World Cup.

France have thoroughly deserved this win, it's not exactly a "golden generation" that they had (though it's certainly golden now!), not with the likes of Giroud there, but with others like the unstoppable Kante, the imperious Pogba (though he'll become the invisible man when he pulls on a Utd shirt again), the impudent Griezmann and the unbridled monster that is Mbappe they are a formidable outfit, and let's not forget that they got to the final of Euro 2016 just two years ago.

As for the tourney itself I've loved it, I hated the last Euros due to the expansion of the format as it produced some of the most turgid football I can recall having seen at a major event in my lifetime but this was so much better. Not every game was a classic but at least with VAR we got wins wins wins (though ironically enough the first 0-0 draw came via Les Bleus) and overall I think it's been a positive addition, not perfect by any stretch of the imagination but a step in the right direction. Even the football design itself was excellent, and wasn't the floaty beach ball of recent WC's.

Right, I'll see you lot back in here in two years' time for Euro 2020, fingers crossed all the home nations qualify so we can be equal opportunity piss-takers. It's never quite the same when you're there and no-one else is but their fans keep up the chirp all the same, and with more vintage whines than a sommelier can shake a stick at

I was thinking exactly along those lines myself. Some of his performances at Man Utd have been, well, shall we say disappointing for want of a better word.

Every World Cup the "experts" tend to claim it was the best ever. It didn't seem close to the best Cup I've seen.
