You need to have a hard drive in this day and age, regardless of platform. |

I expect MS to drop the price of the 20Gb hard drive and then release the 120Gb drive. They will never admit it but clearly MS have messed up seriously with the specs of their console, and it will never resolve itself. They can never 100% be sure that their user base all has a hard drive. So yeah, these people will be dumped on when games are released that require a hard drive.
As time goes on and drives get cheaper I expect Sony to periodically increase the size of the drive in new PS3's |

Chances are likely there won't be any disc swapping required on any platform, provided there is some type of HDD element involved. Based on what I've seen, the game and its engine and required files will all be on 1 disc. The additional disc is textures, which are probably compressed on the disc until install.
At WWDC, Carmack told us the demo we saw was over 24gb of textures--that's a helluva lot. For a PC, yes, but even more so for a console. And since you can't put 24gb of textures in RAM, then most of that will have to be on the HDD, whether it's PS3 or Xbox 360 or PC/Mac. But I like where this is headed. Expect in the next 12-24 months to see PC mfr's start to put Blu drives in their systems (please, Apple... I beg you) because game developers will finally start to take advantage of this tech. All of the heightened awareness that Blu is good for gaming should also, by proxy, help bolster it as a winning home theater format. This is good strategy on Sony's part. I'm also glad id is producing more family-friendly games. Anyone who has experience in the industry knows this is the Golden Goose. |

I don't know about Rage because it's a FPS game and those always sell well on 360, but I'm pretty confident (and this is a personal assumption here) they either removed or discounted the loyalty fee per disc for SE games (SO4, FFXIII). Again just an educated guess.
