I'm sorry buddy, I don't know what size your screen is, but on a projected 12' screen it's clear as day that DNR is present. Take a look at any shot looking through a window in the rain, the image just turns into a big soupy mess...

My bad. I'm currently using a PS4 to look at internet and those 2 images aren't displaying. I'll switch on the laptop to take a look. Sorry 'dlh', thanks for the link.

Well, I watched it last night. There's definitely some DNR applied, but it's nowhere near as bad as something like Predator UHE. A couple of shots are horrible, like the one of the yacht caught in the storm where the waves look like something from a PS2 cutscene, but overall it's still highly watchable.
The real upgrade here is the audio, oddly enough the secondary track sounds better. I suspect the first one might be stereo upmixed to 5.1, while the second one has a higher bitrate (averaging about 1mbps higher) and the surround activity is incredibly immersive. I still can't understand most of Ezequiel's dialogue though ![]() So it's a 3/5 for video and 4.5/5 for audio - only way to improve that would be if it was Atmos or DTS:X. |

I just got mine shipped from JBHiFi and watched it a couple of days ago on a fairly big screen via a Full HD DLP projector.
The first 10 minutes or so (except for the poor underwater CGI) the image looked quite pleasing in terms of fine details, colours, etc... ... but once the settings changed from the boat to the village DNR was obvious and easy to spot. I cannnot say if it´s less DNR than when compared with the Vestron release. All I can say is, that the DNR used here is not as distracting and bad as on the Predator disc and it still lets some fine detail shine through from time to time, but overall all faces and textures are limited in their possible fine details due to the DNR. You can make it less distracting by telling you that all characters are soaking wet almost throughout the entire movie and a slighty wet film on your skin and clothes will make you and fabrics look a little waxy. If you are able to bullshit yourself you might be fine and enjoy the picture quality to a certain degree... if not, well then you are f***ed :-) There are some other issues with the PQ that come on top of the negative side. Lighting seems a little inconsistent and it can change from cut to cut in some scenes. This occurs probably because of the shooting conditions and you can´t do anything about it, but it still felt strange and I am not 100% sure this is because of bad color correction or could have been changed/repaired with some decent color correction. In the first couple of minutes there is a wine glass that drops from the boat due to bad weather and when it breaks the wine flows down the side of the boat. The moment the glass breaks and the wine starts flowing the wine itself had some heavy pixelation. i did not play that part again to double check and the part last maybe 1 second, but still... this sucked. I did not spot any other similar pixelation (is that the word? Sorry, not a native speaker) throughout the movie. Overall the PQ is NOT good, the DNR sucks (but not as bad as one might suspect), some fine detail is still there, the colors are exceptable (little fluctuations from cut to cut), blacks are quite strong and the whole movie is uncut. PQ: 2 (maybe 2,5 if you are generous) from 5 AQ: have to double check on the other track, that is suppoed to be superior (I don´t know which one I chose). All I know is, that I watched it with some Master Audio 5.1 track, which wasn´t impressive at all... exceptable. There are english subtitles for the whole movie, even for the spanish parts, but when Spanish is spoken the subs are in Spanish and do not give any translation. I need to check my old R1 DVD but I'm fairly sure the Spanish was never translated. |

Thanks for that advice. I won't have the opportunity to properly view the whole film until Monday but I had a look/listen to moments today. There is a massive difference in quality between the two tracks. Track 1 didn't even seem to be in surround sound. The start of chapter 3 sounded totally different. It's really odd that there is a superior audio track which can only be accessed by pressing the audio button on your remote whilst the film is playing. It's very strange that the default track wasn't automatically the best option and that the superior one was kinda 'hidden' on the disc. Not sure what Umbrella were thinking? I thought the noise reduction on this was really bad. If Predator looks worse, I would hate to see it.

I don't blame Unbrella for this one though, it's just what they got? |

Yeah, they wouldn't have been involved in creating the transfer for this one. Even with their releases of Australian titles, its often been a case of using what they're given. You should see their Ozploitation DVD titles, which have come from VHS rental transfers (Kadicha), slightly better quality tape masters (Innocent Prey) or even old TV transfers (Dead Easy, which opens with a Roadshow Television ident!).
