Wish I could afford the 9000...

Though, with my concerns about setup complexity, it will probably be even more daunting than the 820...

What are you worried about? it should be plug and play. You might have to setup screen res, language, wifi, etc but I don't think it would be to stressful. Try and open a line of credit for a UB9000 someplace online if you want one that bad and can't shell out the money immediately and can make small monthly payments. You don't have to tell me if you have good or bad credit really none of my business it was just a suggestion since you clearly want one badly.

It's unclear if these will be exclusive to Value Electronics on launch or other online sellers will stock them.

They are both the same plug and play wise. If you want to tweak either of them, you can spend more time. If you have the 9000, you have at least one additional option, so slightly more tweaking.

Just think of it like a TV. When you get a TV, you can either use it with factory presets, or you can adjust and calibrate.

Robert, excited to hear that you’ll be getting shipments of the Panasonic 9000 player, not for myself, but for all the other members here on the thread and your customer base. Should be a top notch piece of kit with a videophile quality build.

Just a thought, you may want to update the OP with basic information for the 9000, and that it’s definitely coming to your store and the anticipated dates.

You are worrying to much about all the tweaking etc. It's still plug and play and it will just have factory defaults as settings for video/audio. You have to setup screen resolution, wifi, etc. Go into the settings if you get player and adjust what you would like to. I plugged in the UB900 and it had an amazing picture right out of the box. The UB9000 is still going to follow some of the same characteristics as UB820 and UB900. If anything the picture will be better with the UB9000 out of the box as the UB900 does not have the HCX video processor. I think it came with a 4K high precision chroma processor.

If I can give you some advice, buy the Panasonic 820 or 9000 and put Black Panther on minute 1.57 and following. The best colors I've ever seen in my life on a television.

Placed an order for a UB9000 from Value Electronics, really looking forward to getting it! I had a UB820 in the past, but I really was disappointed with the remote and build quality coming from my Oppo UDP-203, so I can't wait to get the UB9000.

Is there any way to have a screensaver come up when pausing a blu-ray? If not, has anyone come up with a workaround? I feel like over time I’m going to damage my OLED. I just hooked up the 820.

Now the question remains-- do I try to track one down now and pay the $499 or does anyone think there's a good chance of this dropping a hundred bucks in the weeks ahead?

From what I can tell, this player is very popular and not many retailers seem to be carrying it.

I think it depends on whether Panasonic maintains weekly pricing with dealers like LG does. Robert could answer that.

If that is the case you can watch the vendor site for pricing shifts, and then local dealers will sell it to you for that.

Hey guys,
I have a Sony X940E that is capable of about 1250 nits max on 10% widow I believe. Should I set the UB820 to Super High or just OLED/Medium luminance for this display? I know Super high maps to 1500 nits, but my display can't quite get there leading me to think OLED mode or Medium/High which maps to 1000 would be better.
Also is there any real difference between Medium/High setting vs. OLED mode? I thought they both map to 1000 which seems redundant.

Well, I caved and purchased the 820 via Best Buy (it's going to be sent to us by early next week, so I can probably have it up and running by Halloween) and put it on the card I was already paying the Samsung TV on...

Hope I didn't make a mistake, and hope I can understand how to set it up based on my TV's base HDR10 protocol.

Our OPPO BDP-83 is just giving us too many problems now; most of the discs won't load, and some Disney Blu-ray titles (for instance) that boast too much heavy authoring (like on Haunted Mansion) won't even boot up anymore. It was time to upgrade; I just wish I could have gotten a player with the OPPO's build quality and aluminum faceplate...

I also picked THIS up to have when the player arrives so I can hook it up immediately:

Are these decent cables to get the 820 connected directly to my TV?

You know what I'm also pissed about, but can do nothing about it until I buy a new AVR to complete the upgrade path? I won't be able to use one cable to send all audio and video through a receiver (because I'm using an older Onkyo 1.3-compliant AVR), so I won't be able to see the on-screen menu prompts anymore when I do my regular "system diagnostic" checks.

As it stands, I'm gonna have to run the HDMI video out of the Panasonic direct to the Samsung (for 4K video) and then a second HDMI cable (which I already have in place, a Monster high-speed variant) from the Panasonic for bitstreamed audio to my Onkyo...

THAT'S gonna take some getting used to...

looks like you're going to beat me to the punch here.... I know you have your reservations (as I do)... please keep us updated on your experience with the player once you get it
