Mine gets delivered tomorrow. For my 930E should I use the mid 1000 nit or high 1500 nit setting?

I believe this recient UB9000 review has'nt been posted here.
https://www.techradar.com/reviews/ha...-ub9000-review

Correct me if I'm wrong and I will delete this post.

I read 3 or more ub9000 forums. And 9000 things gets tumbled in my very old aged head.
I just have'nt seen the TR UB9000 review posted anywheres___ me thinks.

In addition to the one you just posted above:

https://www.whathifi.com/reviews/pan...-ub9000-review
https://blog.son-video.com/en/2018/0...lu-ray-player/

I believe those two reviews have been posted in the past; I think yours is fresh from today, according to the date.
I am not 100% positive. It doesn't really matter; these reviews sound more like marketing advertisement.

One thing that keeps coming back about the 820/824 and 9000/9004 is how superb the picture quality is with all type of discs, and adaptable to people's HDR TVs and front projectors for optimal video performance.
Panasonic new 4K BR players are the new King in Picture Quality.

And with good info:

Audio is subjective, we need scientific audio measurements.

The more advanced the apps it can do the more customers get attracted.
This is the year 2018, and soon to be 2019...two months.

Everybody wants to stream Dolby Atmos.
Everybody wants to stream Dolby Vision.
Nobody wants to be left behind with an empty pumpkin without candies.

Bob. Do you or anyone have the exact height measurement of the UB9000.

I know you like OLED's. This would http://www.expertreviews.co.uk/sony/...-rule-them-all
pair well with the UB9000. But Im not sure UB9000 is Dolby Vision profile 5. I know Robert Zohn asked it be in specs thru his channels.

On Panasonic's website as 430mm wide, 300 deep, 81 high, 7.8kg. You'll have to use an app to convert to U.S.

I've been taking measurements of various pieces of equipment, since I have only a very small space for it all (small apartment). For the two new Panasonic units, I got the following (I only wrote height and width, not depth, since the cabinet I have is pretty deep). I can't recall where I got this info, I think from reviews. Wherever I got it, they didn't make it clear if this was for the unit with or without feet.

Panasonic DP-UB9000 (HxW): 81mm x 430mm
Panasonic DP-UB820-K (HxW): 62mm x 430mm

Thank you so very much guys.

That makes
UB9000 3.189 inch
OPPO 203 3.125 inch

I can thus barely get one of them into the slot. Funny. Without filing down Disc Player's 4 legs.

Shy 17 inch wide is nice.

Yes, very close to the 203 all around. It's the weight that I question...
820 listed as 2.2 kg
203 as 4.3 kg
and an alleged whopping 7.8 kg for the 9000. Those seem to be listed as unit weights, not shipping weights.

And I don't believe filing or removing equipment feet/legs is a terrific idea. I actually frequently add Sorbothane feet to equipment to dampen vibration.

Is there a way to access the nit information on the 820? If so, how?

I got mine today (820). I decided to compare its tone mapping with LG’s (my TV’s) tone mapping and also see if they worked better combined. Long story short, they seem to work better together, saving more detail in bright areas and highlights:

Different frame:

If you look at the brighter areas of the pictures (the lighting rays, the gradations on Bruce’s white shirt, the blobs of light around Flash), you can see how much more visual information is saved when both options for tone mapping are combined together (there are even more colors around the Flash instead of just blobs of white), more than either one by itself, and definitely way more than when all tone mapping is turned off.

This is with an LG C7 (OLED), with the HDR optimizer option set to OLED on the Panasonic. Since the optimizer in the Panasonic tone maps close to 1000 nits, for the OLED option, and the display can only go as high as ~750 nits, the improvement in more retained gradations in brighter areas when combining both of them makes sense, clearly complimenting each other quite well IMO.

I wish I had a better camera to better capture the improvement as the pictures simply don’t give it justice to how it actually looks in person. The image overall is slightly darker, yes, but that has never bothered me as I either have minimal ambient light to pitch-black conditions. And as I’ve said before, even the brightest cinema projectors (from Dolby) only reach a peak of about 106 nits and that’s already plenty bright for me, so even with a more overall aggressive tone mapping, in a good environment, the picture looks great, still plenty bright and I’m extremely satisfied with it. I’m not sure that the improvement is worth the $500 (especially since I already have the OPPO 203), but I’m still very strongly considering keeping it given the results, and, it might come in handy if I get a projector in the future or another display with tone mapping that is subpar compared to this one.

Let me be more clear.

FW'D Netflix App with Atmos thru HDMI Enabled.
Vudu App with same features.
These may take FW updates.

Both also able to output DV in select movies, shows, etc

I don't know if it's available on the 820 when you click on the "Playback Info" button from the remote control.
But on the 9000 you do get that additional info screen like here below.

Yesterday I finished to watch Sully in Dolby Vision via Panny 9000, Sony A1, Yamaha 3070, Focal Towers and Sib Evo, separate HDMI but no analogue for the audio. Amazing experience for both audio and video and I can assure you that with Panny 820 it is moreless the same.

hey guys, my 820 arrives today. I plan on hooking it up, updating the firmware and checking out some movies before I start tinkering with the multiple settings..

is there anything recommended to adjust immediately that I should know.

My TV is a 2016 SAMSUNG SUHD 8000 model....

Mine came today and I finally got around to setting up. 2 questions for you other owners.

1) Has anyone received one without that card/sticker thing on the top of the player? I have seen it in all the unboxing videos but mine did not have that.

2) Is there an initial setup screen when you first turn it on? Mine went right to the home screen and I had to dig through the menus to get it connected and update. When the latest update was complete it then gave me the option to do the easy setup that I thought I would have seen when I first turned on the player.

I am just wondering if Best Buy sent me an open box item. The box was sealed and didn't have any of the Best Buy tape on it. Batteries were still sealed, the power cord and remote were in the bags with unbroken tape and even the power cord did not seam like it was used so maybe I am being paranoid but those 2 things just gave me a bit of a pause. Player works great so far.
