if you can score one, get a 20GB and update the hard drive.

Whenever I see a thread that has "ZOMG PS3 is DIEING", it seems to always be the 60 GB model......

MGS4 80GB.
i carry it around and play everything i could play out of it and it plays it all flawlessly.

the only thing taht has ever locked up on me was the browser and that was like 2 months ago.

I had an 80gig and a 160gig. The 160 is a lot louder than the 80gig..

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the new 80gb and 160gb are the same as the 40gb. I have a launch 60gb and a 40gb that is allmost a year old. The only difference I notice from use is the 40gb is quieter and has a lot less features

60 gig from basically launch (dec '06). No problems with mine. I have also heard great things about the MGS4 80 gig.

I've had a 60GB since dec. 17th 06 and shes still running strong. I've even left it on for over 2 weeks. But as with anything else your mileage may vary.
Example:
I'm on my 4th 360 and my brother is still on his first, got them the same day at the same store.
Given that the ps3 isn't really known for having reliability issues like the 360 I say go for which ever one has the feature set you want/need. I myself would try and snag a 80gb if you are buying new. The bigger HD isn't worth the extra scratch since you can upgrade yourself for less. I got a 320gb drive from newegg for 74.00.

You don't have to get rid of your PS3 just because the laser went out.

Check out the guides in my signature.

Mike, would you suggest buying a replacement for possible future use? I'm starting to freak since my 60 gig is getting on in years. WOuld love to be able to replace if it happens rather than sending iot to Sony , payng $150 and having to wait a week up to a month to get it back.

looking to replace the HD on it too, I need more room!!

Absolutely not! There is no reason (if your laser dies) for you to buy another PS3.

I recommend if anything purchasing the replacement laser for only $60 as the majority of issues with PS3s is the laser dying which is replaceable. Look near the last page of my replacement thread with a link from a reliable Ebay seller with available lasers.
