Ever since I bought a Pro I've been unable to connect to the 5ghz WiFi from my router. Plenty of others seem to have the same problem, but I've finally found a solution that works (for me anyway!)
Log into your router, head to the settings for 5ghz and check the frequency. If it's auto, change it to 20mhz All my other devices still connect fine but most importantly, my Pro can connect and enjoy faster speeds than the 2.4 connection. |

Usually you can get on a web browser and type 192.168.1.1, hit enter and you get a username and password prompt. Check your manufacturers website for the specifics. Your router should have a label with the default username and password (both should have been changed immediately).

There's way too many variables. Oddly enough we always got a ton of posts at the Xbox help forums that PS4 was always faster. |

Rule of thumb is to get important items off the 2.4ghz band as that has a ton of interference (lots of devices use that spectrum). If you're okay with your speeds and online play isn't dropping, there's really no reason to bother with it. Being in the same room you might see slightly faster download speeds.

My OG PS4 was giving me constant problems with wi-fi. Sometimes it would lose and regain the connection several times a minute (not exaggerating). I wasn't the only one with that problem either. It had something to do with how many wireless networks were in the area. But my PS3s never had any issue like that. I don't know if they ever fixed it, but I addressed it by buying an ethernet hub so I had an extra ethernet slot to hard wire it. And I just kept that, and now my pro, hardwired ever since.

When switching to 5ghz on PS4, remember to check “View Connection Status” to see if you are getting 100% signal strength.
I only use 5ghz for downloading large files. Anything “consistent” of around 30/mbps with 100% signal strength is good enough for online gaming. |

My PS4 Pro is truly driving me nuts. I fixed the issue where PS4 would kill the network for all other devices by changing my router's DNS
[Show spoiler] The current issue is [Show spoiler] [Show spoiler] Update: The DNS change is actually what broke PSN, reverting to the ISP's DNS still seems to kill other devices though so I have no idea. I'm just going to turn off wifi until I have a pressing need to download or update. ![]() Last edited by heyadol; 08-06-2019 at 05:50 AM. |

I unfortunately don't have any useful advice. My PS4 gave me so many problems with wireless, constant drops, etc, that I finally just hard wired it with an ethernet cable. It would sometimes gain and lose the connection 10 times a minute. It is apparently a problem that happens when there are a lot of wifi networks around. It sounds like your problem is a bit different, but the PS4 is bad with wireless. I gave up, because I couldn't fix it.
