Tyrese's character is annoying and only made me laugh once in the franchise's history so I'm okay if they want to kill him off.

I like Tyrese in these movies. But playing career chicken with the Rock is just plain stupid.

'Fast and Furious 9' Lands 'Kin' Writer (Exclusive)
May 14, 2018 - Boris Kit

Daniel Casey is tapped to write the script as Chris Morgan, who has written every 'Fast' movie since 2006, moves to the Dwayne Johnson-Jason Statham spinoff.

The Fast and Furious franchise is getting some new parts under the hood.

Daniel Casey has been tapped to write Fast and Furious 9, the latest installment of Universal’s billion-dollar franchise becoming the first new writer on the movie series in over a dozen years.

Chris Morgan had been the chief writer of the franchise, writing every single movie since the third installment, 2006’s The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift, continuing to pen scripts all the way through 2017’s The Fate of the Furious. Morgan hasn’t left completely, he just switched vehicles: He is now writing and producing the tentatively titled Hobbs and Shaw, the Furious spinoff to star Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham.

Fast 9 will be directed by Justin Lin, the director who helmed four of the Fast movies and who is returning to the franchise after sitting out the seventh and eighth installments. Lin, whose Fast titles have grossed almost $2 billion dollars, is seen as the filmmaker who took a movie series based on street racing culture and took it to new heights, turning it into a global action franchise.

Vin Diesel is set to return as the star in the project that is slotted for a April 2020 release.

Neal Moritz is producing via his Original Film banner, Diesel through his One Race Films, and Lin via his Perfect Storm Entertainment.

Casey is a rising scribe who wrote Kin, a sci-fi thriller produced by 21 Laps and being released by Lionsgate on Aug. 31.

One script that generated buzz for the writer, and which sources say was a factor in Casey nabbing the Fast gig, was The Heavy, a subversive take on the superhero genre that J.J. Abrams is producing for Paramount. That project landed a director last week and is on the fast track.

Casey is repped by CAA, Writ Large and Hansen Jacobson.

I just hope that they don't insert him in via CGI.

I wouldn't mind using audio of him via a phone call or using alternate/deleted scenes from previous films.

Best would be just a brief mention that he's taking care of their kid or on something else (perhaps a solo mission of his own).

Diesel probably felt that having Dwayne Johnson along and other big names in recurring roles diminished his star power and leading man status so spinning off Hobbs with Statham and having it possibly crash and burn or run separately if successfull without anymlre connection to him works for him financially and professionally. As does an all female movie he probably cameos in.

I think this whole fued between Rock and Vin is ridiculous to some extent.

Not having Rock in F9 right after he hyped himself up with Hobbs and Shaw isn't necessarily a bad thing.

Why does Rock have to come into the Fast franchise and take it over anyway? It's not like Rock isn't making bank and landing roles left and right.

They should have just left the franchise as family...and kept the story going like it was out of respect for Paul.

I don't have a problem with spinoffs, but this isn't Rock's franchise. He had nothing to do with it's conception and therefore didn't need to inject his dominance over Vin knowing damn well it would turn into a pissing contest.

No Vin is nowhere near the actor Rock is...but Rock is in the wrong here.

I'd be perfectly fine not seeing Rock in F9. We don't need the overkill.

I side with Vin on this, this was his (and Paul's) franchise and Dwayne Johnson comes in and dilutes the focus whilst adding very little of worth after part 6. Don't get me wrong, Hobbs is a great addition to 5 and 6 but after that his purpose is kind of fulfilled and I could have done without his character in 7 and 8. Let Dwayne go off and do this side franchise and his other movies so Vin and the core crew can carry on with a more focused Fast and Furious movie. Plus if they don't get on there is no point in shoe horning Hobbs into the narrative again if it just causes friction on set.

The "core" crew got greatly reduced since a lot of them either died off or left the team. I don't think they can go back to the way it was. They need to add new elements that are equivalent to The Rock's dynamic to the franchise.

I think they really need to inject Sean Boswell ( Lucas Black ) into a daredevil loose cannon type role on the team going forward. He has been underutilized up to this point.
