If memory serves, the first "28 days" was shot on DV (Canon XL-1s I think)

No point in a highdef release

I wouldn't say no point. Removing the bandwidth limitations of DVD will help clean it up. Getting uncompressed sound instead of what's on the DVD will help.

Not everything will be PotC (not that you're saying that) but almost any show will see some sort of bump up over the standard def release.
