Yeah I kind of agree with you. I can't think of any episodes that I consider to be weaker than this one. I mean, it was an okay episode but it didn't do much for me. As I said, I can tell that I'll appreciate it more on rewatches. It was placed at a bad time in the season, my mind is on the Whisperers and the massive moment that is coming up in the next episode.

People seem to either really hate last night's episode or they think it's one of the best episodes of the entire series. Season 9 has been so strong that I can't really say it's a standout episode for me. It was a solid episode that I enjoyed, but that's the extent of it. Really looking forward to seeing what they do in the next two episodes.

Lots of people on Reddit were claiming it was their new favorite episode.

im sure this has been dicussed pages ago....but whats the deal with the whisperers just being able to walk among the dead?

keeping track from the beginning of the show to now, cant remember what the actual rules are....

they were talking/whispering while in the group of walkers but none gave them a second look.

is it literally now as long as you look dead and walk like them, you are fine? i remember they used to cover themselves in guts to walk with the dead etc..

By wearing the masks that smell like walkers, since they are walker skins, that's one way to blend in. Whispering is fine because it blends in with the noises that walkers make. Moving like them is the final piece.

lol, wait, so the mask smell is so powerful they cant smell the remaining 97% of a persons body?

idk, it doesnt detract me from the show but definitely is far fetched. its a cop out... so anyone can just carry some dead skin in their backpack and anytime they get in trouble, just put it on and walk like a zombie

I agree, I always thought it was a cool idea but when broken down is a bit lame that it works the way it does. I'm assuming since the people look dirty they probably smell close to dead anyway

Would have been a better idea to have them dosing themselves in guts every so often since that has been shown to work in the past.

not to mention HOW LONG it would take them to get anywhere lol...

the idea of this group is cool as hell and i like the 2nd half of the season a lot...but the more you think about the group and the rules etc. it really doesnt make sense haha...like what does this group even do? solely to survive, right? they just walk around wandering with the dead? why? why not only do that when a herd comes... i know, im overthinking it...

I felt the opposite. The series has been very mediocre since returning from the mid season break. This episode was a big improvement.

In terms of the walker smell, I'm sure it comes from the mask and hair that they wear, since they skin the walkers. Maybe their clothes smell like walkers too. We don't really know what they rub on them.

As for why they do what they do...maybe they got tired of losing communities and places where they lived to walkers so they decided to embrace what they believe the world really is right now...a world that belongs to the dead. When you think about it, the people behind the walls at these communities have to constantly fear that their home will be taken away from them, either by other humans out there or walkers. The whisperers don't really have that fear and with resources so scarce, they don't have to worry about someone driving a huge tank through one of their walker herds.

Last night was actually a decent episode. It didn't really push the plot, but unlike most of the other terrible attempts at supposed character building they've done over the years, this had actual character development. It gave legitimate insight to Michonne and her more recent motivations. Finally something done right.

I thought this episode gave some great context as to why Michonne didn't want Alexandria to open the doors to strangers anymore. It could've been any reason, but having it be
[Show spoiler]a friend from her past with a bunch of murderous kids who Michonne has to kill against her wishes to save Judith...
that's some powerful material we've had in these last few seasons.

Not so much IMO. Very much just like the last 5 or 6 seasons. Bad filler (NOT character building), bad villains, characters being very stupid, walkers dangerous only when convenient, etc. etc..

im not making a big deal of it.. ive learned long ago with this show, to just go with it....but the mask deterring the zombies is weak...

and you could argue them traveling with zombies would also constantly put the lives at jeopardy. not from the zombies themselves, but logic would say that if people came across the group of zombies, theyd start killing the zombies/people rendering them basically helpless...

anyway, like i said, overthinking this and it doesnt matter

You're not overthinking it. The writers (show and apparently comic) just underthink most things.

Just caught up on the past five episodes. Really enjoying this season.

Looking forward to how this season will conclude. I have a feeling that we’ll see *that* moment from the comics.

The fact
[Show spoiler]that ninja stated King Ezekiel is safe bums me out. I love the character, but the comic pane of him on the pike with his hair blowing in the wind is kinda iconic.
