So I thought it might be prudent to look back at past July announcements given my relative buzzkill attitude at the moment and I was surprised to see that I may have been misremember things a bit. I had for whatever reason associated July as having been the month where some of the bigger announcements started to pop up for the fall season (specifically thinking about The Unborn, Braindead, and Brain Scan last year) but much to my surprise those previous three titles were actually August releases and now as I look at the slate of titles from past July's, none of these really did much for me outside of a few titles here or there. (Namely, The Fog in 2013, Ginger Snaps in 2014, Return of the Living Dead on 2016, Slither in 2017, and In the Mouth of Madness in 2018) What this has shown me is that while there were other titles I certainly enjoy within those years, July has really (for me) been a month with one stellar release and a bunch of other lower level ones.

Last years ITMOM announcement was significant due to the implications of the warner deal. I then remain hopeful that whatever Collectors Edition is yet to be announced for July will either A) Carry similar multiple title implications from an untapped library or B) Be something substantial that most of us would get excited about and want. We should know soon enough...

April was an amazing movie for Shout titles, while May was so so, and June was pretty meh. I'm hoping for some good July titles, but surprised no new announcements have been made.

I'm excited. Are you excited? I'm excited.

I love Silent Hill. It's easily the best video game to film adaptation ever (IMO). Packed with awesome production design, atmosphere out the wazoo, a great cast and impressive visual effects. It kind of falls apart in terms of the story (it's a little over complicated) but it's not terrible in that aspect.

DAY ONE, BABY.

I remember seeing Silent Hill in the theater when it came out and thought it was awful. Great atmosphere, though.

SOLD! What it lacks in plot, it totally makes up for in atmosphere. Looking forward to the extras! I wonder if the sequel will be forthcoming as well...

I'll pass, just read the plot on wiki, sounds ridiculous. Ive been saving a lot of money lately from Scream. Not their fault though, most of the best titles have already been spent.

So this is gonna be on the reverse? Meh... Might get it if it's an improvement over the old release.

Anyone else start to lose interest in Scream Factory after late 2016? I remember when they first came on to the scene in 2012 they were killing it with the best classic horror films from the 80's.

Why give Silent Hill, Green Inferno, Chainsaw Massacre 4, and others the star treatment? To be fair, they did great with Creepshow and Hell Night. Night of the Creeps will probably be awesome. The Entity is another interesting horror film from the 80s. But most of their new releases don't compare with the releases they put out in their first 4 years.

Is it just that all the good movies have already been released and they are digging at the bottom of an empty barrel? Or, are they shifting/broadening their focus a bit? All I can tell for sure is that their releases are not making me want to open my wallet as much. They seem to be missing that 80's sweet spot a bit. What do other people think?

Nope. I’d get pretty bored if all they released were 80’d horror movies. I like that they’re mixing it up with 90’s an modern horror.

It's Sony, so the likelihood of a new master is slim and none, but it'd be pretty sad if they couldn't top an old 2006 release with an MPEG-2 encode and no extras. Whether they can top the French Metropolitan release is another question, altogether, but that release might have issues with disc rot, IIRC.

Since they're working closely with Christoph Gans, hopefully they will be able to include the extended cut.

Good to read they'll be working closely with Christophe Gans on new supplements; here's hoping Gans' visually striking BROTHERHOOD OF THE WOLF is eventually released in a new special-edition as well.

... and that (to me) is why a film like this could not come anywhere close to "awful"....

I hope they can release Pacific heights ... Silent Hill & last months collectors edition of the green inferno don't interest me at all . I suppose all the better collectors editions will be released in October time.

Silent Hill, awesome, cant wait to get this ... just for the poster alone, love the movie as well...

Anyway, since July is supposedly a bigger month than January thru may.. think we will get another collectors edition for july?

They did say they have more to announce up til Friday... cant imagine it's just the two ifc films left. .
