Difference between the "screw"-type speaker connector, and the "insert"-type?

I've had both of those types. The real only different is that the "screw type" hold the wire a lot stronger than the regular lift, insert, release type. They both still get great connections from the wire, granted you striped the wires well

So I could use them interchangeably? In other words, if my old receiver had only the "clamp" method, and a new one has only "screw" method, I can use the same speaker wire for both?

Yeah totally. The wire you have will be fine with any type of connector. But I would use "fresh" wiring, if you know what I mean. Meaning, brand new striped wire, because your other wire's wires will be all spread out and such.

Yes, sometimes the push type will not accept 12 gage wire, its too thick, but this is rare. The speaker connecter you refer to as the screw type will also accept banana plugs, this makes it allot easier to hook up speaker connections.

Do you ever use electrical paste to prevent corrosion on these connections as you would do with an electrical panel in your house? The banana plugs allow you to reinsert a connector from time to time effectively renewing the connection, obviously you can reterminate any speaker connection from time to time but what a pain.
