I think September will provide some sort of indication. If they don't announce any Warner titles that aren't of the Hammer or Lewton variety, I'm of a mind to think they won't have any for October. SDCC could be different if they agree a new deal before then (I'd be surprised if they weren't trying to strike one).

It is the 35th anniversary for ANOES so that would be a no-brainer. However, I would personally prefer a Warner 4K UHD.

Truthfully , I don't see them triple-dipping titles just yet (not counting Halloween II and III in the box set, since those discs were unchanged), especially if they're not going to start doing UHDs.

I'm just happy that UHDs are region free; I tend to see a lot more of the "cult" stuff I'm interested in getting overseas releases.

I could see either Shout or Arrow doing it. Arrow did release it in the UK, after all, but Shout has pretty much made it a mission to release any and everything John Carpenter that they can (starting with Assault on Precinct 13 and ending with Village of the Damned, Shout/Scream have released all of Carpenter's films, except for Christine and BTILC).

I'd like to see a big collector's edition box set of the Elm Street films like Scream did with Halloween, but truthfully, I think Warner doing a UHD of the first film is a much more likely scenario. I won't object to being wrong, however.

Are we pretty certain that Scream might have Fade to Black?
I was looking into trading in my double feature dvd with Hell Night, however if we are not sure that it is coming out then I will hold onto it as I really love the movie.

Any information would be awesome.

Thanks again,

Was it implied somewhere that they do?

In their recent podcast, I believe they said they are unable to communicate with the current rights holder.

Which of course contradicted an earlier report from someone who attended a Halloween convention last year and said that producer Irwin Yablans revealed Scream were going to put out Fade to Black. It's possible Irwin had heard they were trying to get it, and jumped to conclusions, who knows? Alternatively, maybe Scream were being a touch dishonest on the podcast? After all, it's not the first time they've deliberately misled on such things. They're never going to confirm a major title is coming.

What does that even mean? Don't they have lawyers? Have their lawyer contact the rightsholder's lawyer(s) and make a deal. I'm sure nobody wants to just sit on property they can exploit. I don't think these guys try hard enough. Requesting a meeting via Skype and lowballing the rights owners isn't going to get you far.

Changing the subject slightly, I have a nagging suspicion that in terms of CE's September/October/November are going to be rather Fox heavy. We can be pretty sure Freaked is coming, and unless Fox are revisiting it themselves I think it's fairly safe to surmise that Scream will be the ones putting out this rumoured new edition of Big Trouble in Little China. On top of that, it seems very likely that Scream would have acquired The Fly II in their Fox deal, which leads me to suspect they might also have Cronenberg's The Fly. Unless Fox have done a recent restoration they'd be using the same transfer as the existing Blu, but I doubt that will put Scream off if The Entity is any indication.

And there are of course a number of other Fox titles they might wish to give the double-dip CE treatment:

The Omen (I believe this at least has had a 4K restoration we've yet to see utilized)
The Fury (TT edition long OOP)
Damien: The Omen II
Enemy Mine (TT edition long OOP)
Omen III: The Final Conflict
Buffy the Vampire Slayer (1992)
The X-Files: Fight the Future
From Hell
Joy Ride
28 Days Later
Wrong Turn
The Hills Have Eyes (2006)
The Omen (2006)
28 Weeks Later

While I don't think any of these particularly needs the CE treatment (especially since this will involve using the existing master in almost every case), this is Scream we're talking about...

Sounds very likely for future announcements, i.e., the rest of this year and into the next. Especially Big Trouble in Little China and Fly II. The current Blu of BTILC in fine, but I'd buy it again since it's such a classic.

Fox does have a new 4K master of The Omen that has only been released digitally. Since it doesn't seem like a 4K disc is coming any time soon, I would love to see Scream release a new box set and include the 4th film to make it complete.

They've been saying for years that he doesn't respond to emails or return phone calls. Apparently he's rich (doesn't need the money) and whatever effort is involved with licensing it simply isn't worth his time.

Another possibility is that he's just another rights owner that thinks it's still 20 years ago and is asking a ridiculous price for the rights.

Big Trouble is the only Carpenter title I don't own. The main reason being I was always torn between picking up the US or the Arrow release. Then I read that the version that was streaming on Netflix seemed to be a better scan of both(?), so I continued to hold off.

If Scream is able to release the best version possible, then I am all for it. I'd love to round off my Carpenter shelf!

Side note, I just saw something about today being the actual date of the events of The Terminator? What are the odds, if Scream really has it, of it being announced today?

Omen IV: The Awakening is one of a fairly small amount of 'new-to-Blu' titles offered by a Fox deal, though I've no idea if it has a HD master. The same goes for some of the others, especially the TV movies:

Dr Renault's Secret
The Unknown Terror
Back from the Dead

Hand of Death

Witchcraft (if they can resolve the issues which nixed the Kino release)
Devils of Darkness
The Nanny
The Anniversary

Hex (if it's still with Fox)
When Michael Calls (TV)
The Norliss Tapes (TV)
The House on Skull Mountain
Spectre
(TV)
Vampire (1979) (TV)

Savage Harvest (they tried before, doubt the Beatles music can be cleared)
The Vindicator

Frankenstein Unbound
The Haunted
(TV)
Ghost in the Machine
Strange Days
(more a Shout Select title)
Quicksilver Highway

Club Dread
Incident at Loch Ness
Turistas
Joshua
Death Sentence

There's probably a few more I've left out. Of these, I'd say the following have a shot at the CE treatment: Death Sentence, Strange Days, The Fly II, maybe Club Dread.

If Scream has The Norliss Tapes do they also have The Curse of the Black Widow? One minute it sounds like it's coming then nothing...

The stream master is completely botched color-timing wise. It definitely had no input from either Carpenter or Cundey.

Curse of the Black Widow is an ABC/Disney title I believe. Unfortunately, Kino have said they probably won't be releasing any more TV horror films from that deal due to legal and materials issues, so it's unlikely we'll see it.

Would be great if Shout were able to squeeze Fox for titles before the merger with Disney takes full effect. I'm hoping Criterion snags the Fly '86 since they'll do an overall better job with it but Part II could use a BD upgrade. I have the Aussie release but there's room for improvement.

I'd also love an Omen box set.
