Nothing like honouring Kubrick by making the versions he didn't like or want to be seen the new default.
Don’t make me post that article again

Interesting interview but it actually makes things a bit more confusing. This passage right here especially:

Quote:
Harlan: Stanley wanted to make sure that nobody would ever re-assemble his edit in any other way. All outtakes and unused scenes were systematically destroyed — including negatives and rushes. He himself knew that he would never consider a re-cut. He was someone who lived totally in the present. He never looked back.
Kubrick wanted to make sure nobody would tamper with his edit and now we're possibly getting a version WB mucked with? And then Harlan claims Kubrick would never consider a re-cut. This is absolutely false since we have the Euro cut and there's even the story relayed by Tobe Hooper that he saw Kubrick still editing The Shining years after its release.

And I agree with Johnson that the scrapbook scene should have been kept. She also says that the hospital scene was 'easy to jettison' and Kubrick obviously wasn't insistent on keeping it either since he went to the trouble of having it physically removed. I really hope it hasn't been added back for the UHD release.

Source? I've seen this repeated ad nauseam but have yet to see an actual source for this. I think it's just internet lore that's been repeated so many times that people just keep repeating it without anything to back it up.

I remember finding the article where this seems to have originally been claimed a year or two back when Googling to check which version Kubrick preferred. There was no source provided in the article.

The other internet legend is that Kubrick "felt American audiences would need more narrative scenes to explain things while European audiences wouldn’t need those scenes" and so made the Euro cut.

I've never seen a source for that.

Yeah, those skeletons look like a parody. Also, Danny Lloyd is really bad in the "Danny is not here right now Mrs Torrance" scene.
Overall the US cut feels too long, many scenes drag on and on. The UK cut is the perfect one for me.
If there's a miracle and the hospital scene is indeed included I'll recreate the UK cut for me with it ❤

Why not have 3 cuts of the film on it. The US cut, EU cut and the Alternate ending cut?

Any way you slice it the prospect of seeing more Shining footage makes me giddy like a little school girl. Please have this be true just don't have it be the only cut on the blu ray.

What is actually the reason that WB doesn't include both cuts on a release? I know Kubrick made the shorter cut especially for Europe, but there's nothing stopping them as far as I'm aware. The HMV even has the US cut in special packaging for sale in the UK.

As much as I want this, I doubt we'll ever see this footage. I don't agree with them never releasing it, the film was originally released with it, but what can you do?

I was hoping we'd get this in the originally intended ratio of 1.66:1. But, 1.85:1 isn't too bad considering Kubrick framed it knowing it'd get cropped this way in the US.

That’s why he composed it and intended it to be 1.85. There was never any intention of a 1.66 version, for the 1,000th time. People need to stop spreading nonsense.

Already reported (and what I figured from the start) it’s the 144 minute version. There’s no alternate ending, and it was pretty silly for people to think it would magically be on there after 40 years of never seeing it.

At this stage it doesn't matter what people think the original ratio is, they'll get what Warner Bros gives them and that's that.

But Barry Lyndon is framed that way, and that's god's gift to cinema? So obviously he wanted every single movie to be framed that way after that one And just the big bad studios meddled with his intent. Yup.
