I don't recall anyone claiming it was. It's quite clearly an homage to the original Saul Bass poster art.

I think it's a great example of creating a new design by taking inspiration from the original. But to each his own.

Chances that we get an editing snafu like on 2001.... Pretty High... It's obvious the studios still don't know how to manage proper auditing of their restoration work before release.

And yes, I know Kubrick also edited the 119-minute version himself. But in the case of the 144- vs. 146-minute cuts, it's one sequence that could be easily seamlessly branched.

This is worlds better than the 2001 Steelbook where Dave locked himself in a front loading washer.

I do hate that BB prices their Steelbooks with a $5 premium. I never bother with them now.

I would have like for them to have included extra footage of the trip to the Hotel, with the family, to show the trailer, or whatever it was, to explain how all that stuff could get there. It certainly wasn't crammed into the VW, the only vehicle we see arriving at the Overlook Hotel.


As for the main film, I think the pacing after the family settled in to the hotel moved too fast into the craziness. I would want more "normalcy" established, to be invaded by the hotel-- but bing-bang-boom it's snowing.

Plus the scenes where they tour the Hotel just makes it seem larger than life and it re-enforces that the Hotel is a big deal. Yeah, they might not be scenes that are must haves, but I’m still glad they’re there.

For me "The Hotel" is the Main Character, not good Ol' Jack...

Home video movie makers take such liberties. A movie is like a good book, but told visually. When you open a book, you don't have parts of the book thrown at you before you start to read page 1...

I knew this poster but was never a fan, although it's miles better than the traditional home media cover with Jack Nicholson's face through the cut in the door imho.

And at least the new artwork shows the Overlook Hotel in some capacity.

I never saw The Shining at the theater, and I never saw that poster. I hate that poster. It reminds me of the artwork that they'd put on the cover of a S. King book. I did buy the book, and it was just too hard to get into. So I hate the book version, and don't like the poster because, for me, it reminds me of the book.


I wish they'd published a book that's written from the movie. I do have the screenplay, on some disc I got sometime back in the 2000s.
