What did y'all think of The Final Terror? This is one I enjoyed renting a lot back in the video store and I mean really enjoyed. Then when I rewatched it a few years ago when I purchased this SF blu it was kind of underwhelming. Now don't get me wrong I am a huge fan of Slasher films set in the sticks but this one was kind of a snooze. I do plan on revisiting it again soon to hopefully regain my one love and recognition for it. Not the worst slasher I've seen, far from it, but I gotta wonder why I enjoyed it so much as a kid. I also realized (not that it would make a huge difference) that this SF version is slightly cut, it's missing a little violence from that skinny dipping love scene. Would love for one day that the full uncut version will have a release. I think it's on youtube.

The Final Terror is an adequate slasher/backwoods survival yarn. I'm a fan, and its location scenery (the gorgeous northern California wilderness) goes a long way in helping to overcome its deficiencies.
It really needed a larger body count (the opening was tacked on when they realized it was short on kills), but the funky score is cool and the cast is peppered with a lot of recognizable pre-fame faces. It's certainly a damn sight better than Humongous. |

Regarding The Final Terror, I totally agree the location was gorgeous and helped the film. This and Just Before Dawn have the most beautiful wilderness scenery I can think of in a slasher film and are characters in themselves. Was also cool seeing a very young Daryl Hannah and Rachel Ward.

Evilspeak is awesome. Sheer 80's splatter fun. Gotta love all those flashy computer graphics from back in the day.
Final Exam is poop. Uninteresting with the worst killer to ever grace a slasher. Radish is the only interesting character on display and he's still super annoying. The Final Terror is an interesting one. I haven't seen it since I watched it on Youtube where someone had uploaded it under its alternate title of Carnivore. I still haven't picked up Scream's blu either. Need to get on that. |

I'm trying to remember if I liked the Final Terror. I'll have to revisit it. For some reason I had that movie the Burning in my head, but just looked at my collection and I don't have that one, nor do I know if I've ever seen it unless I caught it on some streaming service or TV. It must have been the Final Terror that I watched but now I'm confused.

I consider The Burning to be easily the most overrated Slasher mentioned on this board. I've watched it a handful of times now over the last few years and while the effects are great, I found the film to be mediocre at best. It's too well designed/produced to be considered lower tier and looked upon as such, but no where near good enough to be placed amongst the top tier slashers, so it just sort of resides somewhere in the middle of that subgenre in my book.
It's often compared to the Friday the 13th series which does it no favors as well as far as I am concerned as it lacks almost all of the unique charm/qualities that encompass that Franchise, but also lacks the sleaze, and/or grittiness of lower tier cheaper slashers. I wish that one did more for me as It is frequently cited as a solid slasher that has gone under people's radar, but it just has never clicked with me for whatever reason. |

I love The Burning not for it's effects (although they're great) but its characters. I loved spending time with them, laughing with them and hated seeing them die (well except Glazer) It's the perfect slasher for me because everything clicks into place and I honestly have no issues with it (although I can understand why some would not like it)
I even love Rick Wakeman's score. |

I have personally also loved the Burning. It just has such a special atmosphere to me. The characters are good, production’s good and it just has a sense of danger and edge that I love. Not to mention the kills.
Always enjoyed Final Exam a lot. Good characters and dialogue. The killer is scary because he just looks strange to me and someone crazy like that could actually do that in real life. My main qualm is the prank scene. I get it was a different political climate back then and I’m not ever sensitive about that kind of thing but yiiikes that scene didn’t age well. |

I also watched New Years Evil on prime recently and snoooze. Just a dull and cheap movie. Thought the phone voice was interesting and the dumpster scene was creepy but that’s about it honestly.
