Ordered the hardbox which comes with cover A. Hardbox is not in stock anymore, though.

Just watched it. Overall the PQ is just fine imo. No remaster, but it looks very filmic. Glourious film grain. Natural colors, the heavy red tint from the UK DVD is gone. Sharpness and details are fine. Some specs and dirt here and there, but nothing too distracting. There is one instance (meathook scene) where it looks like they inserted scenes from a bad VHS. My guss is unrated footage that was missing from the HD source?! Overall I am more than pleased with the PQ and this release of this amazing martial arts flick. Recommended. Region free, too!

BTW you can choose between 1,78:1 and 1,33:1 (Open Matte).

Thank you for sharing your thoughts with us.

I must admit that I’m disappointed that the print they used wasn’t uncut and they be inserted VHS footage. If anything they could have used the missing footage from a DVD source or just left that scene out, I’m guessing using the DVD wasn’t possible due to copyright issues.

Other than the few seconds of inserted footage the transfer sounds great. I will keep my pre-order.

Ok, I have a few questions:

1. How can you tell it's not a remaster, and if not, then what is it? A scan from a German 35mm cinema film reel?

2. What is the username of the mvd guy? I'd like to find the post where he talks about trying to release this film on his label.

P.S. I'm stoked about this release.

If it was a remaster I'm pretty sure they'd have done color correction and there'd be no specs and dirt. Looks like a scan from a 35mm print. Albeit a good one, except for the meat hook inserts.

Have you seen the quality of the No Retreat No Surrender BluRay that Kino released? There are scratches all over that thing and lots of visible dirt and damage. There is also an international HD 1080p version on YouTube of it. Take a glance at that and tell me if the quality isn't exactly the same as this current release of king, cause that's an official USA release and I'm pretty sure they used a master.

Let me know.

Cheers.

Also, another question, if the source is a 35 print, why is it impossible to do colour correction?

IDK, the colors change during the same scene from time to time. Maybe R rated/unrated related?!

I'll do a comparison between the old UK DVD and the new German DVD (same transfer as the German blu-ray) later today to show you guys what I am talking about.
