I'm sorry but a studio would be stupid to do that. That would be shooting themselves in their very own foot. And those that buy into would be helping to kill physical media. Way to go. But, that's not true though. Because studios are not that stupid. So, we'll put this bigfoot and any other stupid myths. And by the way, i will always full price on release if it something that i want. On 4k uhd, blu-ray, cd, or vinyl. Because i support the studios and artists/musicians who bring this wonderful work to us at a cost upfront to them.
K.

You did make a big fuss about it being $5.96 though lol.

If anyone can get an extra copy at that price, I'll pay for shipping.

No, I didn't. Here's what I said:

I said that person was sh--ting with me and there was no FREAKING way it was $5.99. I never believed it. I never made a big fuss about it being $5.99. If anything, I made a big fuss about it NOT being $5.99. Reading is fundamental.

I also bought the 4K for $5.96 at Walmart thanks to one of the members who reported it at Walmart's BF thread. Whether it was a glitch or not (because the standard blu-ray wasn't priced the same either), quite a few other members also reported being able to purchase it for $5.96 as well. If it was a glitch, well, that's on Walmart then.

To be fair, the UK copies are more expensive and it'd probably be cheaper to buy the 4K and the regular BD set separately.

There's a 2019 copyright on the colorized disc label!

This forum: Why is physical media dying? Why don’t studios put more effort into their releases? Why don’t they put out more catalogue titles? Why is so much effort going towards streaming?

Also this forum: never pay full price.

Let's not forget the prices enthusiasts paid back in the 90s to keep Laserdisc going. UHDs cost pennies at full price compared to those.

Honestly I think the DvD days of the early 00s have become so ingrained in some people's mind. That they just expect film's on physical to be cheap.

Those days were just a blip before streaming. When there was no other alternative, and the studios just opened their vaults to capitalise. And also demographics. There was enough people still alive who were familiar with decades like the 40s and 50s.

Do studios look more at the number of units sold, or the profits made regardless of units sold? Or perhaps both? I'm all for supporting physical media and do buy day one releases for titles I really want, but if certain titles go on sale later on for the titles I decided to skip for day one purchase, I'll make the purchase at the sale price. Sale prices are inevitable, so wouldn't studios also take into account when it comes to calculating their profit margins? Isn't it still better to see people buying even at sale prices, rather than not at all and going full digital?

Never go Full Retard Digital.

Me, I can see all sides of the argument. I've grown tired of paying £20 a go for catalogue stuff - unless it's a beloved movie I simply must have day 1 - and I don't mind admitting it, particularly when most UK discs no longer come with digital copies (so I can't get a few quid back selling the codes) and retailers like zoom sell X new disc for a tenner literally weeks later, but nor is it coming with a sense of entitlement that I'm owed anything by the studios. Maybe I should be owed something as I've spent a fortune on home video over these last 30-ish years and I've paid my 4K dues in particular, but that's not how the game works and so I'm happy to pony up when the situation calls for it, while also keeping an eye open for catalogue bargains.

I'm actually against buying movies on digital and would always support physical media over anything.

All that generalization was just a waste of time by the poster lol.

I bought It's A Wonderful Life on 4k for my mom for Christmas. It will be her first 4k disc. She has been using her 4k player for dvds and blu-rays. She said she would buy 4ks if they had older movies available. That's what she mainly watches. I wish I would have gotten her The Wizard Of Oz, too.

I agree. I watched this last night and the HDR does absolutely zero to an already solid bluray. Matter of fact, I ev even forgot at one point that I was watching in 4K HDR due to that.

Wife & I watched it a couple nights ago and thought for sure it looked excellent, greyscale of the B&W throughout looked perfect. I was so into the movie I didn't really think about what Dolby Vision was actually providing but none the less it is an outstanding presentation of a classic film.

I've seen B&W remastered film by Criterion abd Kino not even in 4K HDR that blow this one out of the water.
Case in point: Last Year in Marienbad

Not really considering he hasn't been around these parts in months. I'd forgotten he even existed. If you're looking for trolling find anything just about by Jim.
