Stopped at Sams for gas and the usual end of week supplies. Holy frijole, it was ravaged. Never seen so many empty aisles. The meat was pretty picked over. Not a single chicken in the store. They still had ribs tho. Guess no one wants to grill a rack.

Much of my anxiety is food-related.
As many of you know, I have lost weight and resumed vigorous exercise after almost three years of medical troubles and resultant obesity. I also had a colon surgery last year resulting in the removal of 12 inches of my colon because of a precancerous mass, and my current dietary choices are driven by the recovery from that surgery. The consequence of all of this is that I tend to become inwardly nervous and ill at ease if I don't know where my next meal is coming from. In other words, if I'm in a social situation or on a weekend trip, for example, where I may not be able to pick exactly what I'm going to eat at the exact time that I want to eat it, then my anxiety level goes up. I fared well during my friend's wedding weekend a couple of weeks back and was pretty easygoing about everything while eating different foods than normal, but, in the back of my mind, I was obsessing about it all. Needless to say, the thought of not having access to the types of yogurt that I want, the types of protein drinks, etc. drives me up the wall. I go to the grocery store every three days or so to replenish the yogurt brands, kefir, etc. that I eat out of my fully-stocked refrigerator, with the intent that I'll always have two or three weeks of what I want just in case I have to quarantine myself or just in case stores close altogether and we are faced with government rations or something of the sort. The rational side of me knows that I'll be fine one way or another, and that I won't regain all of my weight overnight if I am forced by circumstances to deviate from my patterns, but the lifelong eating disorder side of me wants to make damn sure that I can control things as long as I still have the ability to exercise my sphere of control. I know that things may become more serious in coming weeks, and that, like everyone else in America, I will not be able to pick and choose my foods like I want to. A good kick in the tail of hard-times perspective is waiting to give me a slap in the face, and I'm aware of that it's not all about me. Still, as long as I can control this aspect of my life, I'm going to do so. |

This may seem carelessly frivolous, I know, especially given the present social isolation recommendations, but I did not want to be in a situation where I have no warm-weather clothing in the event that non-essential stores close long-term. I came home from my shopping with several short-sleeve button shirts, T-shirts, and two pairs of khaki shorts (size 32...woo hoo!). It turns out that my instincts were correct. The stores where I bought these items are now closed. |

There was a lot more to it than that. The reporter insulted him by saying he has a propensity to put a positive spin on things (of course the media is the total opposite, because negativity sells, so I can see how he would feel that way), and then he interrupts the next reporter's question with this. I can see it both ways, not a Trump fan at all, but disrespect shown between the media and the president is mutual and feeds off of each other. Nothing to see here.

I work for a major US plant making lunchmeat. Since I use my real name I won't name the company. Plus there's another major plant in Columbia that makes hot dogs. Were being forced to stay open to keep store shelves full. Were talking 1,000+ in one building, sharing locker rooms, break rooms, and restrooms.
So far, so good, but things are bound to change. |

Also, Italy has gone from out of control to pray for everyone. I don't need to post the numbers released today to emphasize the gravity of what is going on there. Once this virus gets out of hand, its nearly impossible to stop. - Anyway, has anyone else stopped purchasing things? I haven't bought anything but groceries for a week. Kind of just froze in place wrt spending on non-essentials. |
